Lol akshuarries
Definitely partial to blended Pina Coladas and margaritas around the pool. Don’t want them overly sweet though. Cut with beer when the palate gets tired.
I’ve been really enjoying Gin & Tonic recently which i never used to drink before. problem is that I’ve been getting headaches(not hangovers) after which i never use to get from Beer/Whiskey that i usually drink. Anyone have similar sensitivity to tonic? (I assume its not the gin cause its just flavored vodka)
Have you tried substituting plain club soda for the tonic water?
I think Tilquin is generally wonderful, but I’ve never had the draft version. Unlike a lot of other beers, where the draft and bottled versions should be effectively the same–same recipe, but obviously different delivery, which can mean differences in freshness and differences due to keg line cleanliness–the Tilquin draft is actually a different recipe. Again, I don’t know what that tastes like, but I would expect it to be much lighter than the traditional - the ABV of the draft recipe is 5.3% vs. 7.0% for the bottled version.
Report back!
So coming back from Romania, I picked up a bottle of pelin wine at a minimart in Bucharest at the recommendation of my host. It cost 19 lei (slightly above $4). The first few sentences from the Wikipedia article on it:
Now you see absinthium and you think it’s gonna be crazy high alcohol content but actually it’s just 11% ABV. After all, this isn’t distilled it’s just fermented. I got the red wine version of this.
I was advised to chill the bottle for 24-48 hours before drinking it which I did.
I’d say if you aren’t a fan of bitterness in your wine to avoid this. It is without a doubt the dominant feature of this type of wine. But beyond that, it isn’t bad. It is pretty refreshing. By American standards, this costs next to nothing though I remember often getting bottles of wine in Spain for about this price at a local supermarket when I lived there. So the price wouldn’t impress them much.
Unrelated to the beer, but is it standard in Israel to write in English right justified with a period at the left of the last line of the sentence like that?
Also didn’t know what the symbol for a shekel was until now.
No, just poor formatting.
I will hopefully get there before it runs out. Two weeks ago they had a festival with 10 drafts from them.
Tried it today. Second time tasting Tilquin. This one was def less wet socks. Reminded me of a childhood memory of eating suriname cherries.. Tasty, but not as special as the first one i had.
Not really the strongest recommendation…
A legendary moment in my marriage was when my wife tried to compliment the cheese lady by telling her that the blue cheese she sold us “tasted like an old shoe”. The look on the cheese lady’s face was priceless. I remind my wife of that one as least once a month because my wife can’t get back at me because I say and do so many stupid things that she can’t keep track of them.
Maybe you prefer wet horse blanket?
I like the fermentation taste/smell. This one was milder
I don’t drink as often or as much as I used to, but saw this on the shelf and I’m interested. I really didn’t have the taste for IPAs anymore, but hopefully the results will be less bitter than this beer.
This beer tilts me because everyone pronounces it with a long I, when it should be short as it is in the case of the OG Pliny the Elder.
Also I have no palate for beer and don’t get why it is so great. It’s good for sure, but I know a number of people that will buy as much as can when the opportunity presents itself. I don’t think it’s that good.
I’m guilty of the mispronunciation and since I mispronounced it wrong for years, I still have problems saying it correctly.
It is still pretty good and imo it is the canonical West coast style double IPA that other brewers take inspiration from for their own DIPAs. My palette has fallen out of favor with IPAs lately, so I’m not in love with it but the fact that this Pliny for President is triple dry-hopped should make it more interesting and more of a modern IPA.
I’m not really sure why one would buy out Pliny the Elder. Maybe they a reselling or trading for other beers? Maybe people think they won’t see it on the shelves again so they snatch it up? We just started getting regular distribution of Pliny in the last year or two up here in Washington to select craft beer stores.
