The beer, wine, and spirits thread

Some beer names are getting ridiculous. But name aside, “she drives a second generation four-door Plymouth satellite” is a pretty good beer.

Mini TR from my Boston / Portland trip. Flew into Boston on Wednesday and walked around town for awhile until our friends got there. Ended up on Harpoon brewing and had a couple. Beers were fine, but atmosphere was pretty good. We went to Trillium later on for a couple beers and they were elite as expected. Loved the location by the water. Went to Row 34 for dinner after and ate a ridiculous amount of food.

The next day we drove over to Treehouse and it blew every expectation I had out of the water. The atmosphere was incredible and the beer was obviously GOAT. Very Green and Mega Radiant Extra Peach were the highlights. They had ~11 hiking trails attached to the brewery which was a great touch. Everything about this place was perfect. I bought 1 of each beer available for a total of 24. Getting them home was a problem as I didn’t plan on doing this. Beers - 10. Service 10. Atmosphere 10. Bathrooms 10. Ended up buying 4 tickets to the Red Sox vs Yankees game for $250 total. ~4th row near the right field foul post. We ended up having a significant rain delay in the 5th and bailing but the experience was cool. Getting out was a disaster. Prior to the game we went to the food market and grab fried chicken sandwiches before settling in at the other Trillium location and watching the public Yoga class.

Next day we drove to Portland. Immediately stopped at Allagash and had a couple sours paired with the best lobster roll of the trip which was at the Bite Into Main food truck. I had a “flight” of the lobster rolls. Walked around to 3 different breweries next to Allagash; the best of which was Battery Steele. They had the next 2 beers of the trip which included a wild Gose and a DDH. They also had Vulfpeck live in New York playing over the speakers. Another fantastic experience.

Our Airbnb was in the middle of Old Town. Weather was beautiful. We bar hopped around before eating at some seafood place and getting poured on. I met some random lady named Dena that ended up buying us our entire pre dinner beers and dinner. We stood out in the rain together and bullshitted. Shout out to Dena. After, we walked over to Oxbow. At this point I am overindulged and things start to get a little hazy. I do remember getting 3 flights of every beer that they had including poutine from Duckfat next door.

I woke up with an absolute beast of a hangover and my wife brought me a ginger turmeric juice that I proceed to drink and puke up. Fun. I muster the will to piece it together and we head to Bissell Brothers. The bartenders are all singing the entire Greece soundtrack which did not help matters. After awhile I decide to just go for it and order a Substance which slightly helped things. Pretty low key day that consisted of exploring town a little more then going to Blythe and Burrows for cocktails. I had a Tom Yum Soup cocktail which blew my fucking mind. Really cool spot. Ended up at some bullshit country bar for a little bit which I hated then a pizza place on the water. Bed by 10 for the 4am wakeup for the flight home. Flight got cancelled and I was stuck in the airport for 6 extra hours.

Great trip! Pics probably in a separate post below.

Shoutout to @sriracha tor some great recommendations.

Nice! I’ve done quite a few Boston and Portland brewpub crawls over the years, but things have changed so much I can’t even keep track of all the breweries any more.

It’s on my list for sure. I want to go to Foley Brothers, Hill Farmstead, Foam, and really just explore the scenery.

Nice TR! I’m off to Boston next week, planning to hit up Treehouse on the way home and take home a case or two. Should see if I can work in Trillium too.

It’s for sure worth it. I would go to the one near the water. Hit Treehouse earlier rather than later if you can.

That’s a lot of blackfaces there.

i wish i was into beers when I traveled through New England like 5 years ago. Looks awesome.

One more pic of the Treehouse haul I found.

If you showed me this picture like 4 years ago I would have absolutely thought it was fake. Days of standing outside in the snowy cold for an hour+ for 4 beers coming from a brewery the size of a small barn are long gone.

I wasn’t sure if it was because we went on a Thursday at 11 or what… There were probably 20 people total.

That’s awesome. I haven’t had any in awhile but it seems they are still producing world class stuff while also growing and growing. Whoever is advising them from the business-side is damn smart for scaling and branching out into other avenues (coffee, hard liquor, farming) like they have while also keeping quality.

This is a picture of a random Wednesday afternoon back in 2017 around when they opened that place. They use to hand out paper sheets with the day’s offerings and you could fill in how many you wanted, usually a max of like 12-18 back then. Prior to that was in Monson where you did the same but stood in a field for fewer cans/bottle fills. And prior to that was Brimfield, doing the same but out of like a tiny barn and even less beers.

Great TR, looks like you had a blast.

Forgot to mention on the night that led to the awful hangover we went to Novares Res and I drank a bunch of harder to find Belgians. Love that place.

Last time I went there I also ended up with a massive hangover.

From my 10 year FB memory. I must have barely started posting on that shit then. From my original dive bar my friends all worked at and used to help with quarterly inventory and side things.

Drink on left is at least 3 oz of vodka with cran apparently and shot on the right is as much or more vodka called a Starburst (mixture of flavored vodkas and energy drink) for $4.25 for the shot. $4.25 for the Ketel One or Absolute or Stoli or whatever I was drinking at the time.

$15 with the tip and you have a great buzz and employees loving you. That is also part of a dive bar requirement imo. No jiggers measuring alcohol shots served, you get a drink based on what they think you want/deserve.
