Shaq was so lazy in college.
I really want to see what this was.
I’m guessing you’re a (relative) hater bc Buddy is a poor man’s Klay. Klay has much more utility on D and is the best catch jumpshooter OAT imo (grew up a Pacers fan bc of Reggie fwiw).
*I like to post my opinion, it’s not always necessarily directed at anyone specific (hopefully just ironed out your annoyance w me).
Siakam is probably better than Klay on a bad team. In a similar way, Stackhouse was a boss for Detroit a couple years but was an overall meh player.
I don’t think Siakam is a meh player, but his role as a jr player to Kawhi I think fits him better than someone like a Paul George who graduated from a similar role next to Granger. Siakam is more Odom than a #1, that guy doesn’t fit as many places as a Klay who is plug and play anywhere.
Nick Nurse is prbly the best coach going.
Just that the take is kinda always true because he didn’t define how good he thinks Klay is.
I love Klay personally. Took him 3rd round in our draft.
Oh yeah. * eats shit at self in corner *
It’s like there needs to be two (or three) categories. Value to good team, value to bad/mediocre team, and value in vacuum (which is a subjective weighting between the two).
Aside, does anyone object to me moving these basketball posts to the NBA thread (or creating a separate NBA LC thread or something)? They’re pretty detailed to be itt.
I remember at the time my dad, who was a very, very casual NBA fan; never watched college; and was a racist who liked the “good ones” being like, “They just wanted the pretty white kid from Duke with all the honors. They fucked over Shaq.”
One of the minor points of I think episode 6 last night was Ahmad Rashad talking about how “they build you up so they can tear you down.” I’ve heard that phrase many times before but I’ve never really thought about it. It’s 100% true. Thinking about just in my lifetime, in addition to those Bulls it could arguably be applied to:
-Miami Dolphins
-SF 49ers
-Dallas Cowboys (at least twice)
-New England Patriots (for sure!)
-Alabama
-Red Sox (amazingly multiple generations of goodwill up in smoke)
-Miami Hurricanes
-Texas Longhorns
-Lakers
-Celtics
-Warriors?
Who did I miss?
LeBron
Vick (self-inflicted)
Tiger
yeah I was doing teams there are lots of individuals
the self-inflicted list is extensive
But then I don’t think the Warriors really got torn down.
Durant did.
I don’t think any of those (pro) teams were really built up and then loathed. Winning is just polarizing.
Duke wasn’t always hated, right? Weren’t they closer to Butler at the beginning? They deserve to be on the list.
3 categories is a good idea.
I don’t mind having NBA discussion in here, if ppl who jus want non NBA content in here then u can sure move it to NBA thread.
Yeah, I’ll just leave as is. No one is complaining.
When was the heck was Duke not hated?
They were never the plucky underdog on the way up?
I don’t know, I’m genuinely asking bc it was when I was a kid.
I guess you could make a case for them in 1990 against UNLV.
That was the first NCAA tournament that I remember watching with any interest.
But even then they had made the Final Four in 4 out of 5 years.
I’m sure they were the fun underdog at one point, but it would be well before my time.
Duke were absolutely the good guys in that one (and the following year in the SF). Not even a question. Underdog against a team that was allegedly paying players. That was also Duke’s first championship, so they really hadn’t built up a lot of ill will yet.
Duke shipping back to back is what got Laettner in. Of course, that’s in addition to the racism. Because of Duke’s success, I’m sure he was more recognizable to the casual fan than Shaq.
In retrospect, not having Shaq on that dream team is a huge miss. Anyone who grows up now and sees that roster, says “Who the fuck is Christian Laettner?” on the other hand, if Shaq is on there, it seems completely natural (even though he hadn’t accomplished anything at the time).
Just in college?
He admitted himself that he didn’t even try in practice in the NBA. His reasoning was that he got beat up a lot in games so he didn’t want to get double the beating by going hard in practice. Doesn’t really make sense b/c his teammates aren’t gonna be hacking him in practice, but whatevs.
No Hack a Shaq during Prac!?
You don’t say Fossilkid!
