Could be a number of ways. Beetle admitting it isn’t working and quitting would be most likely. A vote to end it would work too.
Voting to end it sucks. It’s going to be a slap in beetle’s face. It’s a permanent position as long as beetle wants it and people like him.
I just changed my vote to no.
I assumed we were voting on the idea of whether a judicial branch was a good idea, not that we would be making beetlejuice an admin (for life) with the authority to implement this plan however he saw fit. If we are giving him that authority, it should be much clearer in the poll.
If people don’t want Wookie to be a mod for life, I propose establishing the position of pontifex maximus and promoting Wookie to Unstuck pontiff for life and out of the mod position.
I agree! But voting against it in the first place is also a slap in beetle’s face. Like, a universally beloved forum poster wants to help the forum and arbitrate disputes? Hell yeah, let’s do that.
I already stated my objections. But it seems that implementing this would violate your aversion to indefinite appointments, which you assured me was a deeply held principle and not a personal vendetta against the current moderators.
This could not sound more like trolling. Very harmful trolling.
Exactly this.
Personal vendetta? What the fuck are you talking about man? I’ve never had any conflicts with you at all! What is the vendetta you’re imagining here?
Not having moderators rotate seems to cause bad blood and is clearly causing problems. I don’t think Beetle having an indefinite term as an judge/arbiter would cause any problems. That position would only work with certain people who are going to be viewed favorably by more or less everyone. Having you or me or most other people in that position would never work.
Could you expand on why you think that’s trolling? I for sure thing that people not taking beetle’s proposal seriously is insulting to him.
Beetle seems clear that this is not a binding proposal and that the full referendum would be done later once the specifics are worked out. If he thinks otherwise, I think he should say so rather than Keed continuing to advocate for a position that beetle has not:
Unless I’m mistaken you have argued and hearted a ton of posts about the principle of rotating mods and agreeing that either an indefinite terms or no term limits are not what we want and here you are trying to install a supermod who serves forever unless voted down.
And now you’re making it like I’m insulting beetle because you’re intentionally trying to stir shit up when you know that I’m opposed to this on principle and not insulting beetle.
It feels like it is implied that you believe that “forum poster [who] wants to help the forum” is not a valid description of Wookie.
Should we interpret any no votes in Wookie’s gatekeeping polls as a slap in his face?
Missed that post, thanks
So is this a serious thing or not? Because I have a major problem with appointing beetlejuice to be the head of a hypothetical “judicial branch,” and super-turbo-serious concerns with making him a site admin. In fact I would ask for an immediate perma-ban and deletion of my site data if that were to happen (and I am 100% serious about this).
I can write a longer, more detailed post about why I feel that way if this might actually happen, but if neither of these things are a possibility I won’t bother.
Changed my vote to no. This needs to be more seriously discussed and I mostly voted yes because I thought it was a funny post.
I don’t object in principle to a judiciary but the way this convo is going concerns me a little.
What’s the principle?
Minimum permanent authority. Maximum shared responsibility.
Did beetlejuice intend for “admin-tier” to mean actually be made an admin or did he really just mean “level of authority above moderator” without actually having certain site permissions?
From my understanding the Pontifex Maximus can change the calendar so how is that going to work out with the forum software?
