Should beetlejuice be made admin for life and have droit du seigneur with your daughter?

I’d be curious to hear the perspective of the no voters. Is it anything other than just thinking it’s not needed?

Yeah, this.

I don’t support giving beetlejuice admin rights to the site, at least not without further discussion of why he would need that.

That isn’t a good idea unless there’s a much larger community vote with more consensus.

That’s about the only thing I’ll stand very firm on - the admin permission is extremely powerful.

Personally I’d be extremely uncomfortable with it and it’s not because of beetlejuice, I just think it sets bad precedent

Yes, I believe that this is not a serious/binding poll, but some users continue to act as if it is. So I thought I might as well speak up about it.

@beetlejuice has made it clear that it is serious. That he has a little fun instead of using stodgy Official Person language like thus, hereby, henceforth, etc doesn’t mean that it isn’t a serious proposal.

@beetlejuice I think the points raised about site admin authority, especially given that it comes from one of our existing admins are very valid. Can we change the language to not include site admin capabilities?

So your position is that beetlejuice should be made an admin, etc. on the basis of a bare majority in this poll?

Good to know

I don’t think anyone should ever be made an admin without the full support of the existing admin team, so this definitely needs to be addressed.

Well I think then the actual admin would have to serve as bailiff/bounty hunter during trials when the accused are confined to the Judical Forum.

Not necessarily. Like beetle said, the discussion in this thread is how we hash out the details. That’s what we’re doing.

Well, which is it? Is this a binding vote, or are you still working out the details? Like, I don’t hate the idea of a separate panel for handling mod disputes, but I definitely oppose starting something that then gets to change their scope willy nilly. I also don’t think that admin appointments should be done by a bare majority standard, or that any one person on such a panel needs to be considered at such a level, or even elevated relative to other panelists.

Both

The text being voted on certainly doesn’t indicate that.

Is pontifex maximus meant to be a position for life?

Well, certainly not subject to terms or re-elections or term limits

Sounds like it’s right up your alley, why’d you vote no?

Beetlejuice is cool and all but if these judge positions are permanent I’m strongly against for the same reason I think mods should rotate.

I also don’t really know how much of a joke this is or how much power the super judge has, but potentially this is highly objectionable. Hard to object too hard when it’s all cute and funny. I mean that literally. It is cute and funny and I’d like to see how it plays out, but when contentious issues actually get judged, the people involved will stop thinking it’s cute.

Seems pretty low risk, no idea why we wouldn’t try it.

How will we bin it?

As you recognize with mod rotation, it’s very hard to even suggest ending something without insulting people.

If it’s an experiment, give beetle 3 months and then bin it or find someone else.
