I really really want to stop thinking about this stuff, but for what it’s worth, I kind of did have a problem with her undemocratic appointment to moderator, but (this will be inconceivable to some here) I kept my mouth shut about it for the good of the forum.
The only glimpse into how she became moderator that I ever got was her saying at some point later something to the effect of “I was asked to be a mod and I accepted.” I mentally noted it because as I said I was kind of peeved at the star-chamber like proceeding and so was on the lookout for any information about it.
Oops. I guess the fancy software knows I’m looking at it from so far in the future that I shouldn’t care about the day. Jun 20 = Jun 2020. My bad. Also explains why there were so many posts on/in Jun 20.
Thanks, I was amused to post that image (from The Dark Knight in case anyone’s not sure) because there was all this hand-wringing about bans and it made me think of that scene.
Wow, that link back in time to the Summer 2020 Moderation thread. What a long strange trip it’s been. I don’t remember hardly any of that stuff. I think it is around that time that I stopped posting here and cut my lurking by about 95%.
Wait what? I just said I had him on ignore, how is that such a horrible insult? I’m flattered if my approval means that much around here that it’s a grave insult when I put someone on ignore. But I really doubt it. He can reply however he wants. I don’t read it. No need to make a gigantic deal out of it.
He keeps posting in the covid thread that these new strains were going to kill us all like 20 times/day. It’s incessant. And he definitely used to just snidely go after me in the covid thread well before Costa Rica, while being completely wrong - to the point tons of other posters were calling him out for it and basically telling him he was the worst poster in the thread. There is a long history there.
Btw churchill isn’t on permanent ignore. That status is reserved for one poster that if you don’t know you can easily guess.
The point was precisely that it’s not a gigantic deal. It was a demonstration of how little pokes that happen around here all the time and then escalate to the point where…see, churchill got banned and you didn’t. Churchill is the one who got the gigantic deal and not you, right?
These mod threads are as bad as StackOverflow Meta - which is one of the freakiest “insists upon itself/up its own butt/whatever metaphor you want to use” things I’ve ever seen. They ruin my mood every time I go in one.
I make you all a solemn promise this will be my last post ever in them. Please do not tag me anymore. If there are any polls I vote with the majority. I just want everyone to be happy.
Several paragraphs on it and tagging me feels like a big deal. I’m now in a bad mood over it which is on me. But these mod threads are just weird and toxic and I’m out.
People need to just not be dicks to each other. I never start shit with other posters unless they start it with me first.
No no hard feelings of course - it’s just a message board, means nothing to IRL stuff. I’m just spouting off.
I’m just not liking the mod-thread explosion we’ve had lately and mad that I didn’t go with my first instinct to ignore them all. And I don’t blame the mods for that - I blame the handful of bad faith posters who ruin it for everyone else.
Edit: ok I had to unmute the thread one last time. I didn’t realize Churchill got temp-banned for it and that’s what your post was about. That seems maybe a little extreme since I did start that particular exchange. I have a thick skin to stupid personal attacks because it shows what the poster who makes them is all about. It’s the trolling stuff and calling me a morally defective human being because I don’t believe XYZ that gets under my skin.
It’s true. You’re not an abusive poster. And as I’ve said before, people following you around to scold you are wrong. And you’re hardly the only person on the site who has travelled anywhere.
Well Jesus. Just imagine for a moment that he had a gimmick called, let’s say suzzers_ghost, that could have voted instead of repeat broadcasting that he’s ignoring the poll poster.
