One month please and thank you. I cannot take any more of this.
Done.
sigh
Two weeks then perma please. I asked once before and it didn’t happen. I’m just tired and want to check out of social media.
Pretty fucked up that mods don’t honor ban requests for whatever selfish or group reasoning. Social media has permanently fucked up some good hombres here and it’s "won’t you reconsider rehabilitating your life so I don’t have to lose 1/300th of my dopamine load ???
Done.
I can’t speak to previous mods, but as far as I’ve seen, ever request has been honored. I think the issue with the 2 weeks to perma is that it’s supposed to be a 2 week cool off, and then if the user still wants the perma, they can request it. So it doesn’t automatically become a perma, and the user needs to make the second follow up request.
What does the ban actually do? If they really lack self control at that level, the ban does nothing.
It may not do anything, we don’t know. But a break that he is personally asking for gives him an opportunity greater than not. How small? - we don’t him well enough to assume. I hold an opinion that the negatives of social media is greater than folks realize or accept.

I completely agree with you on this part. I just take a different view because I’ve been around forums and social media long enough to know that people will still seek out that site through the self ban. Instead I think threads like this do damage in a similar manner to what you’re talking about by giving a person the dopamine hit of attention when they post for their ban request.
If we really want to have self bans, that’s fine. Make the process be that they have to PM a mod to do it rather than post in a public thread.
I’m sure you’re correct on all of this. My issue was that I read and have learned from that particular poster and I wouldn’t want or prefer that he’d stick around for my benefit if I knew that it was fucking up his mental health.
Can I have the two-week pre-perma ban please? I get most of my news and online engagement from this forum and need to decide whether that’s worth the constant drama and hostility regularly on display. It’s also not healthy for me to scroll this shit while quarantined in a hotel room with covid. Thanks.
Done.
Shit, hope you’ll stick around, hokie.
Two weeks and then perma please. I just can’t take Trolly anymore.
Don’t forget about @anon15325461
I tell you, I’m trying to make contributions to the discussions on the site on subjects not relating to forum wars or moderation, but the likes to ctryi’s ban request don’t make this place seem very welcoming to me. I get that church’s request contained some troll and AQ seemed to be making a joke and I took the likes for hokie to be kind of supportive, but I don’t get cheering ctryi saying he wants a perma. Am I missing something and they were sarcastic?
Thus my question at the end. Do you ever not try to score points with a post?
eta: my whole post there is examining different reasons for likes…jokes, support.
A “joke.”
