I’m not even sure how to block PMs, so if I did it was an accident.
We considered your request and you got vetoed, sorry.
Stop othering people bro
Victor said yes, when asked this question. I believe him.
He asked. I doubt it was sincere, but I nominated him just in case. We would have gotten criticized whether we responded to his request or ignored it, so I just decided to go with letting him know the truth, fully expecting responses like yours.
We considered your request and you got vetoed, sorry.
don’t make this place seem very welcoming to me
Mimosa threw Sabo off this site. It’s possible for some veto there will be no reason other than someone didn’t like them, but this isn’t the case here.
I have no idea if that particular request was sincere or not. I’m not cool enough to be part of either the invite only forum or the juicy pm threads that are apparently rampant here, so I fully admit that I know only a small piece of the full story here.
That being said, I don’t think you should assume a request is insincere simply because the person making it has a problem with one particular poster at the new site. As so many of you are kind enough to remind us, there are quite a few people who left this site (or at least post here much less frequently), but do post at the other one. I mean, based on the way the descriptions the Captains make about the vibe and the quality of posting in that space vs the way this site is characterized, who wouldn’t want to post there? Potentially having a problem with one of the people doesn’t necessarily mean that someone couldn’t have a genuine interest in chatting with some of the other folks who left. And it doesn’t mean that they were only trying to get access to stir shit up.
Anyway, y’all can and do run your new clubhouse however you want, and you folks decided that the single veto method was best for your space. But for someone who spent a long time posting here about how the bans interferred with your ability to chat with the people you wanted to, I’d hope you could see how maybe, just maybe, someone could have a genuine interest in posting on the other site even if they didn’t like one or two people there.
He asked. I doubt it was sincere, but I nominated him just in case.
OK, thanks. For what it’s worth, it was sincere.
I read a lot more than I post, and that would have been my intention there as well. (I realize that doesn’t make me a particularly valuable forum member). I believe it’s true that I voted to ban Sabo because I thought he was intentionally trying to sow discord here, but I assume that’s not the only strike against me because other people who voted for the ban probably now post there? Either way, the forum war shit has now gotten to a level that I don’t really understand at all, but I know it sucks.
In any case, thanks for letting me know.
How am I just now noticing we have two Mos Defs in this forum? One of you ought to be Talib Kwali.
I have no idea if that particular request was sincere or not. I’m not cool enough to be part of either the invite only forum or the juicy pm threads that are apparently rampant here, so I fully admit that I know only a small piece of the full story here.
I can’t imagine anyone vetoing you. It’s not like we vote on it. For someone clearly not controversial people don’t even ask all the time. Anyone having voted for a permaban here automatically makes it at least a discussion. As I mentioned before, people are sorry about anyone who feels left out and the way things happened that included a lot of people who have never had anything to do with forum politics or fights.
other people who voted for the ban probably now post there?
Only one person who had previously voted for a ban posts there. I’m glad he does. Iirc he’s an original member and was there before “invites” were really a thing.
That’s only part of the issue. The bigger part is broadcasting publicly about how you rejected someone. While bragging about how great the site is.
I’m not cool enough to be part of either the invite only forum or the juicy pm threads that are apparently rampant here, so I fully admit that I know only a small piece of the full story here.
We should make our own group with a cool name.
That was dickish. He posted on the other site asking whether he should tell mimosa, the answers were all no, and the response back was ‘oops, too late’.
I’m not going to say people aren’t mad a mimosa. Maybe he’s mostly being funny, but he does rustle some jimmies, including mine.
I’m not asking for an invite. I assume you’re probably right that I’m bland and non controversial enough that I would probably pass muster. But:
-
It’s not in my personality to beg for invites to parties I wasn’t invited to. Heck, my self esteem is low enough that even when I am invited, I’m pretty sure that most of the time the host doesn’t really want me there. The last thing I would ever want to do is spend much time or effort convincing anonymous people on the internet that they should let me hang out with them. Especially if, as some of JT’s posts have implied, part of the requirement might be answering for times when I could have been seen as too supportive of bans simply because I wasn’t mean enough to Wookie or Goofy or whatever.
-
I think you sort of understand, but may not fully grok how hurtful some of the trolling posts are and who they hurt. JT is probably right that the people who had the most genuine beef with people who left probably don’t mind if those people don’t post here as much and aren’t particularly interested in interacting with those people. But, as you acknowledge, there are a lot of people who mostly stay out of forum drama but who now are (a) missing out on posts from people the might have like interacting with and (b) have to watch the quality of this forum get hollowed out as people leave or as drama gets kicked up when one of the people who seem to primarily post in the other place pops by to spike the football about how great it is. This isn’t directed at you specifically because I think you’ve been more sensitive to this dynamic than most, but I just wanted to speak up for what I think could be a fair number of quiet posters. point out that the drive by dunkings aren’t necessarily hitting the intended targets.
Amplifying JT’s post, people there have different motivations and concerns. It’s not a monolith.
I was never part of Captains PM thread here or an early member at other forum. I personally don’t view stance on bannings here as a litmus test there. At same time, I respect the feelings of those that were ostracized here to not want to invite their antagonists.
That all said, there is not a hard or long list of vetoes. Feelings change on both sides. And its just an alternative place, not inherently a better place or a worse place. Quality of either site is in the hands of its posters, and different individuals or groups can have very different criteria for ‘better’.
Your feeling are hurt by being rejected by the people you rejected. That makes sense but it doesn’t make hay. The only explanation is you want the people you hate to be banned, the people who you don’t hate but like them to not prefer them. Sorry?
What the fuck are you talking about? This doesn’t even have to do with Mimosa (or me if you’re actually referring to me in your post), it’s about how it makes others feel as Micro explained yesterday and BON is confirming now. Man you really are one of the biggest bullies and antagonizers around.
+1 million
I really miss a lot of the people that have left.
I just looked back at the first walrus grab bag. Here’s who participated:
@eyebooger
@miliboo
@suzzer99
@ChrisV
@skydiver8
@SwankyWilder
@Jalfrezi
@pyatnitski
@Yuv
@Canadamatt3004
@LouisCyphre
@Nicholasp27
@seities
@Pauwl
And it went great (except for me missing the podium by 1 point after leading most of the way). Just a group of people doing something fun. Feel like this group could never get together and do something like this again, and that’s really unfortunate.
Here’s my first draft for an actual proposal which we can have a poll on after this thread has been open three days.
- All permanently banned users shall be reinstated upon request.
- Except for obvious spam accounts, no user shall be permanently banned until the forum passes rules governing permanent bans.
