Who did the doctor take the phone from?
You bring up a good point, and I think primal is not the word I’m looking for. My understanding is that the neurological activity associated with religious devotion/love is more closely related to the activity associated with the most important aspects of our survival, i.e., food, mating, than the activity associated with status, group dynamics, etc. The first group refers to a process that’s more strongly an evolutionary necessity than the process involved the latter group.
I believe that it’s harder to wean somebody off of religion than an ideology. I’m obv super far from a scientist, so my whole spiel may be invalid.
Edit: I’m not positive if NotDavidS was calling me in particular an “atheistic libertarian bro”, but for the record I’m most definitely not that.
As a Mets fan, pain is all I know
Aside from grocery store trips, I’ve been cooped up for 3+ weeks and it has definitely had a negative impact.
I’m no scientist either, don’t worry about it. If the bolded is true, though, it still suggests to me that religion would absolutely be replaced. Organisms don’t generally cast evolutionary necessities aside like a ragged shawl, you know?
I was not calling you an atheistic libertarian bro, just putting out there where I am coming from. I took Sam Harris in the asshole draft. Everything I think about politics touches upon how much I hate libertarians.
Things are getting worse around where I live. The last few weeks I’d been supplementing cooking with food delivery. Chinese food once a week. Grubhub restaurant delivery once a week. I tried to do Chinese yesterday and every Chinese restaurant in my area has apparently thrown in the towel and closed until at least May. I tried to do grubhub and something like 75 percent of the restaurants that were operational a week ago are gone. Those that are still operational have wide gaps in their menus. Uber eats is completely offline in my area now. The pizza place that delivers seems to be all that is left. I live in a large suburban area with lots of restaurants.
My city made a pledge For everyone to order delivery/takeout for all our restaurants. But we have a foodie culture and great restaurants. I’m not talking about chili’s and shit. So I’ve been ordering delivery every night and not feeling guilty about it for once.
Community spread is increasing where I live but is still extremely low due to californians mostly taking it seriously and my governor being not a dumbass. Have not left my house in a few weeks other than to get toilet paper and bread once. I am rebuking people on social media that are posting pics of themselves at the beach. It doesnt go over well. Fuck them.
I honestly can’t tell if it is that the restaurants aren’t busy enough, or that they can’t get the supplies they need. Probably some kind of combination of both. The few that are still open have a large amount of things grayed out on their menu (steaks, etc).
Edit: I’d like to pretend I was ordering to support our local Chinese restaurant, but I also really like Chinese food and it is quite depressing to not be able to get it anymore.
Global coronavirus deaths pass 60,000
The number of deaths from coronavirus worldwide has passed the 60,000 mark - the grim toll now stands at 60, 874, according to data collated by Johns Hopkins University. The number has been corroborated by the AFP news agency.
The total confirmed cases has risen to more than 1,139,000, Johns Hopkins says
Aren’t some countries now adding at home deaths to their totals? In lump sums to catch up in some cases?
I don’t understand why these aren’t available for my viewing pleasure if it’s happening that often
I don’t get why the Chinese places are shut down when their entire freaking business model is delivery or takeout but all the ones around here are closed too. Maybe it’s a cultural thing and Asians are more aware of how bad it can get if these things spread? I assume there must be supply chain disruptions as well. The closest place near me is owned and staffed by red necks and it is also closed, despite a sign in the window reading “carry out only.”
Don’t blame you. I consider myself lucky as I am an introverted person by nature so I do just fine, for the most part.
I have some friends who are really struggling because they need to be around a lot of other people to stay charged up. I really feel bad for everyone who is similarly wired.
I have a big enough yard and live in a sleepy enough neighborhood that I have room available to go outside but right now spring is sprung and my allergies are bad.
Giving good thoughts to all those struggling with quarantine.
I agree totally with this based on the fact that my kid started sucking her thumb once she lost her binky
SARS-CoV-2: Exponential Superflu
I’ve just started noticing this too, usually first thing in the morning, and I don’t live alone. Thoughts to those who do, it must be doubly tough at times.
We don’t even have to do the first part. Duplicate thread titles are allowed.
Re: Restaurant delivery shutting down, maybe they want to? I know some of you think you’re trying to support local business in tough times but fuck, would you want to deliver pizza these days? How about working the drive up window?
