Pneumonia is just a diagnosis, not a DIAGNOSIS. It would be entirely possible to have a viral pneumonia go thru a community with no one identifying it, given a low % rate. I shoot a cxr, if you have viral pneumonia I send you out on tessilon and maybe codeine if I’m feeling generous. Pneumonia is NOT a report able event unless it is an esoteric type (TB, flu maybe Strep pneumo.) I MIGHT do a cbc, but I might not. I probably would have done a flu test. Maybe if you were in the first 48 hours of illness. But the majority of community acquired pneumonias are viral, and don’t need a lot except time and rest. Covid is obviously not that virus

Fox news getting sued into oblivion over this would be sweet justice. So 0% chance it happens.

Having a loved one die of COVID-19 is exactly the sort of thing that might motivate a whistleblower to leak some damning internal discussions to the media.

Do you think it’s medically plausible that people in the US who had a bad cough in January may have had covid-19? If there were a 500% spike in pneumonia in January would the CDC have picked up on it?

Trump kicking the can to April 30

Doubtful but not impossible. A decade or so ago I wrote a pretty extensive post here about why ALL death statistics are at best questionable. If today another corona type virus entered the arena, we (the CDC) wouldn’t know it for weeks/months - because you can’t test for what you can’t identify - you need a sufficient # of cases WITH bad enough outcomes for people to go looking for stuff.

Just browsing twitter, people are really reacting to the lockdown extension. But interestingly they are mostly blaming others for violating the previous rules causing the extension.

Even if everyone did everything perfectly things were not going back by Easter but a lot of people believed that to be true. When April ends and we are in the same place we are going to have real problems because the administration could not be honest with people.

Whoever posted the rz site for masks thanks. Mine is on the way. But they’re sold out and my coworker wants one. Anyone know any other good online stores for reusable masks? (We are “essential”. I guess my ass thinking about how grocery stores are neccessary two months ago was a monkey’s paw use.)

Zuckerburg and Gates are putting their resources together and offering 25 million dollars to help research corona virus.

Thank you sirs! You gave up almost all your monies for us!

I’d check the RZ site daily, they seemed to update regularly. If they’re really completely out of stock now there are some on eBay but for more $$$.

Now Trump talking about how fascinated he is with trucks full of black body bags

I think he’s what you would call a visual learner

We are going to be in a worse place by the end of April and I don’t think it is particularly close.

Trump himself slipped up a bit there and kind of admitted that reopening by June 1st is “aspirational.” I don’t know what’s more shocking, that he admitted that, or that he knows what “aspirational” means.
