I for one think that’s on the conservative side over the next 18 months
Severity is unlikely to matter much if the hospitals are overrun. A more mild case than currently fatal can turn deadly without proper treatment
These fuckers still don’t understand that we’re in a goddamn global pandemic and we don’t have time to follow your goddamn normal operating procedure.
Cliffs: This company can sterilize masks for reuse. They can do 160,000 a day. The FDA will only allow them to do 10,000 a day. Will only let them do it at their headquarters. And won’t allow them to do it in other states.
jman used American deaths in various wars as a comparison to his estimated American deaths from CV-19. I don’t see how that means that he doesn’t care about other deaths.
And then Jalfrezi presented the total death numbers for those wars and asked jman if he thought that many would die from CV-19. So no his point wasn’t obvious imo.
It would have been much simpler for Jalfrezi to just make his point with a direct statement/accusation, since his point apparently had nothing to do with the subject of the conversation which was how many Americans would die from CV-19 per jman’s estimation.
Trying to conflate comparing American Covid deaths to American war deaths (vs total deaths) is a political conclusion searching for an excuse.
World deaths vs total deaths in a war is appropriate but so is country vs country.
It doesn’t mean the author is proposing American exceptionalism. It is just the sphere of influence—“we” can only control what happens here.
(But still concede there is a lot of truth to the myopic worldview of many Americans).
Bank drive through? Wear gloves. Dispose of gloves after putting money in wallet. Don’t spend for three days…or wear gloves again when pulling money out.
A lockdown then is probably better than nothing, but it’s so much worse than adequately testing and containing the virus with targeted measures.
This doesn’t bode well for that ventilator effort in MN getting any kind of official FDA approval, even for when there are no other options besides likely death.
I hope the states start ignoring the FDA in some of these cases.
It was obvious to me, at the time. Didn’t need any explanation from Jalfrezi.
(formatting screwed up, but it’s just a link to the post)
U.S. Civil Rights Office not concerned with rationing medical care based on income and wealth.
The comparisons to American losses of life had already been done. That’s what jal responded to in the first place with the total losses of life. Jman popping back in to make the American comparison was pretty myopic.
When will COVID fatalities surpass Death Star fatalities across the entire Star Wars franchise?
Seems like people are expecting too much out of gloves. You don’t get infected through your hands, right? If you aren’t throwing away gloves or washing them all the time you’re spreading just as much with gloves as you would without. Do any of these gloves have anti-viral properties?
I’m not just responding to you, but like people at stores wearing gloves while they handle all the money and touch the touch screens doesn’t seem like it’s really protecting anyone.
Under normal times anyway at the hospital they do a new pair of gloves for everything new thing they do.
Yeah I don’t see much difference between no gloves but immediately wash/sanitize versus gloves for most things. I guess you’re probably less likely to stick your fingers in your eyes or mouth while wearing gloves.
Agree. They don’t have huge value in all likelihood. And the key is to dispose of them safely after use. I guess you could use your bare hands as well if you use sanitizer right after. I do think they have a little value in helping to remind you not to touch your face. My damn pony.
Yeah, you’re right.
I work for a PPE distributor and our entire warehouse was told weeks ago that gloves are not to be used with the exception of disposables which should be binned and replaced every hour, when all hands gloved or otherwise are washed thoroughly.
The gloves hold two purposes
-
Easy to take off and discard the gloves. Great for doing something it’s not feasible to wash your hands. Plus the glove surface is uniform while your hands all kinds of books and crannies. Smear transmission is possible. I think door handles, touch pads, cart handles are examples of higher risk due to the number of people touching. Canned goods etc less because only the stocker and maybe another shopper have touched in the time frame and then only briefly.

Reminder to not to touch your face. My wife hates the latex gloves so she wears winter gloves and washes them when she gets home. We are only going at out as needed. Not perfect but our system is I do the hands on work and she runs the shopping list.
Oh yeah…I’ve been seeing gloves littered around parking lots. People are just wearing them for shopping and then throwing them on the ground before they get in their car.
It’s staying books and crannies. Damn spell correct.
