SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

Yeah, my daughter’s landlord, in The Hill district in Boulder, sent them an email saying he’s giving them a one-time 20% reduction in rent for April, along with a bunch of links to unemployment resources. He called the outbreak the “Chinese National Virus”. Typically, the kids have to rent apartments about 9 months in advance, and have to commit for the following year 9 months in advance. Her room is the cheapest of 6 in their apartment, and she (I) pays $1200/mo. She is already committed to a different apartment for next year, and has a 3-week gap where she will be homeless.

I’m sure he thinks Trump has been doing a fantastic job for three years, and even better lately, and that he’s being benevolent with his 20% break. Fucking motherfucker.

The correlation isn’t crystal clear, but I think the most authoritarian countries (at the time) are generally at the top.

See Churchill on this. The problem with a Democracy is that people are often wrong. Authoritarians are often wrong even if they are trying to help you, but they can also be indifferent to or even benefit from your suffering and death.

Not that you’re defending totalitarians - just the lowkey anarcho-socialist v notanarcho-socialist battle.

I’m waiting 24 hours, spraying the box with alcohol, opening it outside without touching the contents, dumping the contents onto the presumably uncontaminated area by my door, tossing the box, washing my hands thoroughly, then bringing the contents of the box inside.

Anything non perishable I’m tossing in my car for 3 or 4 days or more or until we need them. My car needs a head gasket and is just parked not going anywhere for now so at least it’s providing some value!

Perishables we wipe down and fruits/veggies (except for things like raspberries) we are soaking in a very dilute bleach solution (2 tsp plain bleach per gallon water) for a minute or two and then rinsing.

I spray and wipe down anything I bring into the house using a bleach mix I have (including outside of container and contents inside).

If it isn’t something important, I just leave it outside until I need it and depending on how long it’s out there, I’ll wipe it down.

Pretty long tweet thread (30 tweets) about Covid-19 and kids by a Yale prof and MD. Discusses low mortality and offers some speculation why.

Saw a tweet thread yesterday saying paranoia about packages should not be excessive.

I’ve read that this vaccine is still widely given to babies in Japan and there is some thought that this could help explain why Japan seems to be dealing with CV-19 better than most countries.

After doing a little reading, it seems like this vaccine helps against a lot of respiratory infections and it probably should be added to the regular list of vaccinations. (Disclaimer: I may not know what I’m talking about and maybe there are bad side effects or something like that.)

Well let’s move to another thread or PM me with what you’re thinking here. I don’t understand your point but would like to.

500 N.Y.P.D. employees have the virus, and 11 percent of officers were out sick.

At least 500 New York Police Department employees have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, and more than 4,000 officers — about 11 percent of the uniformed work force — were out sick on Friday, officials said.

I’m sure autism is a side effect, ldo.

She’s a mathematician, not a medical doctor. Writes math books for a general audience, including one called How to Bake Pi. So tortillas and such are kind of her thing.

Trump’s rabid base will never turn on him but the rest can be persuaded. My SIL is a perfect example. She voted for Trump (She’s a never Hillary) but has been crying the last 3 days b/c her mother is 95 and she can’t see her b/c she knows she’s a high risk. She also made a living will yesterday w/ my brother. This shit is having an impact. Look at all those suburban voters that voted for Trump over Hillary but switched to Biden during their state primaries.

Does NY update once daily or throughout the day? If it’s once daily those numbers are promising, no?

In local news, my county (Thurston, WA) only had 3 new cases yesterday. We’re up to 27. we had 10 new cases the day before but none the day prior to that and they mentioned the spike was because of a backlog of tests getting processed. Hoping Inslee’s shutdown is starting to pay.

Wife and I haven’t had sex in like 3 weeks (1 week was that time of the month). I’ve lost interest due to anxiety over CV. Any tips?
