So you are saying it’s like the flu?
Doctor shouldn’t have time to be making tortillas!
I spent some time today thinking about the worst-case scenario under Obama with COVID-19, and it was pretty depressing to think about. Like, I think in the absolute worst case scenario with him we’d be maybe 1-2 weeks away from being out of the woods, and we’d be in for like 1 year of extremely limited foreign travel with mandatory quarantines for incoming international flights, and lots of testing… Kind of like China is doing now.
I think that the worst case scenario with Hillary would have been similar, but it’s hard to say cause she’s less of a known quantity as POTUS than Obama obviously. Worst case with Bush I think would have been going into a full lockdown like a week ago, flattening the curve in NYC and elsewhere a week or so from today, having a short-term blast through capacity and scrambling like crazy (but somewhat competently/effectively) to increase capacity to help them ride it out.
I’d just circle back to the numerous videos we saw of Asian cities spraying down streets and sidewalks. They had to think it was important/effective, no?
“Ahem, excuse me, sir, point of order: In response to you sarcastically implying that we are, in fact, not saints I’d like to emphatically state, and let the record show, that we do not cater to those unlikely to own cell phones. Now, I believe that is chess and mate.”
Took me a second, but I didn’t have to Google it. We learned about that in an ethics class in journalism school. Politician, maybe Minnesota or Michigan? Killed himself with a revolver on live TV? Some stations cut away when he pulled the gun out, others stayed through all the way.
I’d be one of those people, fwiw.
Edited: OK, fact check: Treasurer of Pennsylvania. The whole thing was aired on some evening news broadcasts. Some didn’t air it all and stopped it at various points.

Oh yeah, it is, and we’re in agreement. Don’t get me wrong, every bit helps.
I’m just trying to ease people’s stress level by reiterating that, in terms of coming into contact with ‘orphaned’ virus outside, if you do the simple precautions you’ll be safe.
One of the tropes of science fiction horror viruses is that they don’t quickly degrade outside the host. We’ve faded that, at least.
When do we get to the guillotines episode?

Ah, well… Nevertheless!
Yeah, I mean, leave your shoes and clothes at the door, wipe down the soles of your shoes and you should be good. (By any reasonable measure. I’m sure someone somewhere will do this and run that bad.)
But this is also part of why I wouldn’t go leaning on counters in public.
He’s just trying to save face.
Spain death toll tops 5,000
The death toll from coronavirus in Spain has now exceeded 5,000, after 832 more fatalities were reported there in the past 24 hours.
The death toll now stands at 5,690, while a total of 72,248 people have been infected.
Spain is currently Europe’s second-worst-hit country after Italy.
A state of emergency is in place until at least 12 April, with most shops and businesses closed and people’s movements severely restricted.
The army has been deployed to deep-clean hospitals and other facilities. Hospitals have been under intense pressure and, like in many other countries, health workers have complained of inadequate protective equipment.
Budd Dwyer
I saw that pos on tv saying he would take chloroquine if someone with corona sneezed in his face, fox news of course.
Total deaths is running about 4x of daily until we level off.
50k or less would be a huge win.
I doubt it although maybe I missed the joke.
Were those people under the impression that Yale likes New Haven? Every person I’ve met with an affiliation to Yale describes New Haven as a shithole around their glorious institution.
He’s just trolling.
It’s that they behave like trolls.
The inso0s will continue until realization that these people are not actually trolling improves.
Hubei Province, which is where Wuhan is located, opened its borders yesterday. Wuhan is scheduled to open up on April 8.
Worked last night on my usual floor (not the isolation floor). They told us at the start of the shift that the isolation floor is nearly full, so they might be sending Covid-possible patients to all the floors. Our unit admitted 2 last night… all I could think is “so it begins.” Doesn’t really matter where I’m working, this will be more and more inescapable.
The guy I sent to ICU 4 days ago is still there, still intubated, now on a ventilator clinging to life. He’s 47.
Our PPE seems to be holding out, for now.
I’m working all weekend, will update y’all in the mornings
Good luck and tyfys
