SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

We don’t have robust testing anywhere in the US.

They do not go in the official numbers anywhere in the USA that I know of. Only positive tests are recorded on state doh trackers.

Edit: also some states don’t require negative tests to be reported, nor do they require private labs to report any tests. They rely on the hospitals to do that, and hospitals have better shit to do than report every test back to the state.

Well that sucks. I guess tissue samples for untested patients are usually sent to the CDC. But we know those will never see the light of day.

The process by which medical professionals report COVID-19 cases to the CDC is standardized across the country. The CDC does not publicize the number of cases or deaths it studies.

For months, the CDC instructed state and local health departments to send tissue samples from all suspected COVID-19 deaths to them so the CDC could test for the disease. On Wednesday the agency issued new guidelines, since access to tests is increasing: Now, the agency only recommends that departments incapable of testing people, both alive and dead, send samples to the CDC.

If hospitals are systematically getting worse and worse at recording actual C19 hospitalizations as positive then my whole theory is fucked.

I don’t believe much from red states except news reports from hospitals and mayors sounding the alarm anyway.

Same as Russia - it took the mayor of Moscow to get them to acknowledge more than some ludicrously low number of cases.

Really makes you wonder what China’s real #s are.

If anyone ever finds a news source for a given state or city that talks to the Will’s of that city and tries to get a real pulse of how fast the hospitals are filling up - please pass it along.

Not far off I’d say - They make the world’s supply of ventilators and PPE so anyone reasonable would assume no short supply so they’ll do better than a nation that is on eBay checking availability. Also, China’s been through similar viruses a couple of times now and not many rookie’s win first time.

US hasn’t managed to supply any aerials photos of trenches being dug in China so I keep your eye on USA#1 figures cause that where the hotspot is

I hereby petition to send “center of path” walkers to the head of the guillotine line.

France deaths include 16-year-old girl

A 16-year-old girl is among 365 people who have been confirmed dead in France as the country faces its highest daily death toll.

Top French health official Jerome Salomon said that the girl had died in the Ile-de-France region of Paris but said no further details would be given.

“Severe forms (of coronavirus) with the young are very rare,” he noted.

A total of 1,696 people have died in hospital in France from the virus, although the toll does not include those who have passed away at home or at retirement homes, he said.

A total of 29,155 people had tested positive for the virus so far, he added.

France has been on lockdown since March 17.

"It is very difficult to estimate when the peak will come… people who are ill now were infected before the confinement began," explained Salomon.

Translation: The people dying now in the US, were infected before ‘widespread’ testing began

The mask place has a bunch in stock right now: Shop RZ Masks | Reusable Air Filtration Dust Masks - RZ Mask

I received mine this morning and I’m happy I got it, based on the airflow it’s definitely performing a solid filtering function.

What’s “center of path”?

Yeah, everything here in Atlanta/Georgia shut down a couple weeks ago. I was on a set the week that everyone realized things were about to get serious. A few days later, schools announced closing, etc. Hang in there.

LA saying 2 months until mid-May. I’m so glad I don’t live in a state/city run by a fucking lunatic.

Dipshits that walk down the middle of a path or sidewalk and don’t move an inch when someone is coming the other way.

This just got pushed to every phone near Chicago. It’s the first I’ve seen outside of weather and tests.

Pics made the Twitter rounds of crowded walking paths Tuesday fueled by temps above 50F. Only the most popular paths are closed because, probably because they are popular and thus crowded. Walking outside is specifically allowed in most lockdown orders.

Oh yeah - guillotines.

I’m basically undefeated in my reverse game of chicken where the first person who moves off the path wins, but I’m also a 35 year old running by himself so I probably should be.

It’s like I’m a kid again and my only friends live within walking distance so I go visit my coworkers who live near me when I’m out. It’s actually really nice and quiet enough in my neighborhood thankfully.

I guess New Hampshire isn’t listening because we just went under a shelter in place order. Very happy with how NH has responded to this so far.

In other news, that mask place has more in stock right now. They sell out fast though.
