There hasn’t been an official explanation, but my guess is that 16k tests per day was not sustainable, and now they are trying to conserve protective gear and testing supplies by focusing on the most likely candidates.

We asked a woman who runs our building committee, who is herself ~70, if there were anyone who might want help shopping as we’d be happy to make a run or two. Got told quite sternly that everyone was fine, thank you very much.
A few days later a notice went up from the committee telling those with young children (that’s us and one other family) that they could not use the garden for, as they put it, “relaxing” (détente). Effectively meaning small children either take to the streets (parks are shut) or stay in their apartments for however long lockdown lasts.
Well, my dad (71) just texted that he was tested for COVID-19 on Monday. Low fever and achy. No cough. Lungs are clear for now. Results back Friday or Saturday. Sigh…

Cuomo is going to come out of this with like a 90 percent approval rating. He’s got his former republican opponent tweeting what a great job he’s doing and his daily briefings are being streamed on Fox News.

I also want to know who the fuck the 14% of Democrats who approvie of Trump’s handling of this are. I assume that a good chunk of them are deplorable trolls with nothing better to do.

From what I gather those numbers for 3/25 aren’t necessarily people that got it today, it’s the new number of cases since the last daily report which I believe they do at the same time every day

Italy sees slight fall in new cases
Italy has reported another 683 deaths in the past 24 hours and a further 5,210 cases. That is a slight fall from Tuesday’s 743 deaths, but it brings to 7,503 the number of people who have died in Italy since the outbreak there began.
Details are normally given by Italy’s head of civil protection, Angelo Borrelli, but he has a mild fever.

Oh, great. My Mum, a retired nurse, just forwarded that thing about self testing that was posted earlier today and includes the breathing in stuff. It seems to be circulating as ‘an internal email from a London hospital’.
