SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

discord probably

I went to a Korean grocery store today. It was more or less the same as other stores. Stores around here are not crowded and most are limiting the number of people in the store at a time.

How the hell did skype drop the ball and let Zoom become the leader in this stuff? Oh yeah - Microsoft killed it.

10 fold is 1 log in base 10. 2.5x is a quarter log. It’s microbiology shorthand and imprecise as you note. Comes from serial dilutions.

It’s .25 “log numbers” which is a bastardized combo of log math and simple arithmetic. It works for its purpose. Essentially scientific notation.

But you are correct the Log10 of 2.5 is 0.398

To be more precise in terms of growth rate everything is done in ln numbers.

In terms of doubling its ln2.5/ln2 =1.32 which is a fairly small range when using doubling time to estimate.

Cool way to first discover your small child has an underlying pulmonary disease.

My kids’ school is using Zoom and she says it’s ok - not as glitchy as Skype.

Same here in SLC. Walmart not limiting people but had tp and IPA a couple days ago.

We got 7 hour tests they got 4 minute tests. We are closing the gap!

It turns out the bottleneck now is the base ingredients most types of tests need: chemicals, cotton swabs. We couldn’t do the Korea tests now because they beat us to the components. There is now a huge worldwide demand for that stuff.

There is also a problem now that the FDA has given up verifying testing protocols and asked states to do it, who have no experience with that because the FDA always did it. If you hear about some miracle test, it’s probably garbage and it uses the same base ingredients.

It has always been in play, since day 1, that people would die because Trump felt disrespected.

I have a feeling when all is said and done, it’s gonna be the US more responsible for this pandemic than China. It may have started in China, but any other POTUS would have had an “Oh Shit!” moment back in January and slowed things down back then while there was still time to contain the virus.Think about the thousands of Americans that traveled overseas between Jan and March 10th or so that normally would not have gone if the administration was on top of things.

Do you live in a red state? I do and maybe it won’t matter but it’s worth a shot. My wife and I frequent it anyways so it’s a complete freeroll.

Me and my SO definitely sick. Very small town, I have next to no contact with humanity, rigorous with hygiene, I maintain a large distance from other people even in non-outbreak situations. Very likely came from the only family in the area we have any contact with. A few hours at their farm several days ago, now all four of us have the same symptoms. Yesterday it started as just a kind of light inflammation in my sinuses. Now it’s gotten bigger and is traveling through my throat. Fun.

I had a flu shot, so I assume that ups my chances of Corona by at least .01% (don’t @me, that’s a joke).

Well I have supplies and work from home so have no need to leave unless there is a medical emergency, but still sucks to be sick at all and now be worrying whether it is something annoying but stupid or if I’ll become one of the numbers Trump ignores :crossed_fingers:

New slogan ‘Open 24x7 365 except tomorrow’ Kinda insane how many waffle houses there are here in the Florida panhandle. Not surprised to see them closing some.

Get better soon Risky.

Some people have been putting up their Christmas lights again to pass the time and give neighbors something to look at.

Sorry to hear that. Is the family you came in contact with sick as well?
