The idea with UBI usually is that it keeps the economy afloat by giving people money to spend. Let’s face it, they may as well blow it all if they can afford to, as they won’t get much interest by saving it.
I mean it’s a start, hopefully we can expand it before passing. But I’m sure there are households with one working and one not right now and it has to be based on employed as of now not as of a month from now, or it wouldn’t make any sense. So you’re talking about helping 96% of people, a greater percentage of families, and people still working will have extra to help their family/friends who need it. I’ve already told several people I can lend them money if they need it. My $1,000/mo is anyone’s who needs it in my family/friends. I can’t be alone in that.
Plus if you extend unemployment you’re at least getting them something. Like I said not perfect but a high profile Republican Senator supporting this is massive for the Overton window.
We had a staff meeting this morning. The city is remaining open. None of us in the legal dept of my agency are currently approved to telework. We need to submit an application with photos of our worksite at home and get approved. The mayor has said everyone who is approved to telework must telework starting on Wednesday, but I don’t see how the city is going to process all of these applications in two days. Even if I’m approved, probably 90% of city employees won’t have that option, and there are no plans to send anyone home. Currently the word is the mayor will not pay any city employees to sit at home and not work.
Meanwhile, the governor ordered all restaurants bars movie theaters etc closed indefinitely starting this afternoon. Courts were closed on Friday. State employees went home on Friday.
I lost it a bit during the staff meeting and I think pissed off my boss a bit. I’m taking tomorrow off, bringing all my shit home, and hoping somebody grows a fucking brain in the next 36 hours.
This shit is going to be terrible in Baltimore.
That’s good news…for Clarence Thomas
Good. Put RBG in a bubble while you’re at it.

"I just talked to my Dad yesterday who lives in The Villages, FL. He’s a registered independent, retired homebuilder, and hates Trump.
He said most of the people in The Villages are die-hard Trump fans and delusional due to watching Fox news religiously. They are calling coronavirus no worse than a typical cold or flu, and are going about their daily lives as if there’s nothing to be concerned about.
If these people want to increase their risk of infection and death, I have no problem with that."
Welp, RIP villages I guess
24-HR grocery stores have been closing early here. Good news is that it’s been to restock.
Mine is doing this, closing at 9. Guess I’m gonna hit it up at 8:30 if I have to but mostly live off what I have for a while and avoid them.
You hate to see it.
If I keep my job and they send me $1000 month you can have it. Dead serious.

So far in the CR, only 6 new cases have been announced. I suspect that 100+ more though will be announced tonight. Seems to be the way things work when announcing cases.
Prague now has four ambulances acting as mobile testing facilities for the city. Although they haven’t announced anything specific about the newest cases, safe to say that most of the newest ones are probably in Prague given what’s being done here relative to other places.
They’re no longer allowing people on public transport without face masks in Brno and Prague. I imagine that policy will spread elsewhere shortly. I don’t know where I’ll get one if I need to take public transport but it’s a smart measure.
In other news, the original three cases have fully recovered from coronavirus. Seems that they put you in quarantine for two weeks and then test you again since those cases were from two weeks ago. Hope we see more recoveries everyday in the CR.
As one would expect. This makes me really sad as a former Baltimorean. Hang in there and take care of yourself and your loved ones!
