USA @ >10% of global cases with ‘winning’ death rate (US still finding existing (old) cases before discovering the new cases)

‘Chinese Virus’ - Trump racist af

For reference:

CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2018–2019 season included an estimated 35.5 million people getting sick with influenza, 16.5 million people going to a health care provider for their illness, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths from influenza

Wow, if US does that bad with flu, meet Coronavirus. There’s a vaccine for Flu, right?

In 3 weeks you’ll be sat inside your home hopefully for the next 3 months - then, it won’t seem like last year’s flu

Lots of reports of packed beaches and crowded farmers markets in LA today.

From all the food/travel shows I’ve watched, Eastern European cuisine never seems to remotely impress.

Yeah same with popular hiking trails yesterday. There is no other recreation right now so people are flocking to the only places open. They’re going to have to shut all that down. They shut down Mt. Wilson at like 7am yesterday and won’t reopen for a while.

I saw a graph stat recently that showed between 12000 and 60000 annual flu deaths in the US during the last decade.

we have a county park around the corner from us that is basically just wild hiking trails. There is usually 1-2 cars there max at any given time.

We walked by the parking lot yesterday and there were 15 cars there.

Multiply both those numbers by 20 and you have a lot of LA hiking trails

I seriously doubt it’s worse to be on a hiking trail keeping your distance than just living in an apartment complex, let alone doing stuff like getting food.

oh definitely. We’re out in the far reaches, and it’s not easy to get here. The most popular places in SD county were overrun.

And if we continue to double the deaths every 3 days we’ll have something like 250K dead by April 5th or so.

Flu mutates so often that the vaccine is only so effective because its based on past mutations. Hopefully this thing doesn’t must so easily or we are royally fucked.

My experience with hiking is trails are super narrow and it’d be pretty hard to avoid coming into contact with people if they’re walking the opposite direction. And there is no doubt people are going to be stupid and just walk right at you.

I watched a documentary about an ethnically Turkish German couple who moved to Chicago a few years ago. The wife worked for a bank and the husband was looking for job. He said something like: you can get great food here in Chicago, but what it needs is real German Doner - „echter deutscher Döner“. I thought it was a great joke.

For like one second when you pass them. Maybe the most crowded trails would be an issue, but it’s not like air isn’t shared in apartment buildings or even houses that are close to each other either.

Not if the trail is as crowded as Temescal Canyon on a normal weekend. And even the less-crowded ones are getting super crowded.

I still think it’s safe in general. But you need people working who could be at risk. Bathrooms are vectors and need to be maintained. Etc.
