SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

I think we sometimes have brutal flu seasons caused by the flu though. We’ve recently seen (admittedly fairly localized) data that show the flu season was dropping off as expected and then suddenly spiked hard again. I have to think if CV-19 was contributing much to the flu numbers this winter we wouldn’t have seen the normal steep drop off in early March before the spike. And unless they’re is something special about Wuhan, Iran, and Italy - if we had CV-19 going around in high numbers months ago the hospitals would already be swamped now. Happy to be wrong about this.

Right, I don’t mean to imply young “healthy” people are somehow immune. And you work in a hospital so I’m especially not going to sit up here and tell you what’s what in that regard.

But, about a week ago I mentioned how it was likely somebody on this forum already had covid and immediately a dozen people chimed in like, oh yeah, now that you mention it I totally had all the symptoms a couple weeks ago but it was mild and went away so I didn’t think twice. A friend’s roommate said he had a mild fever and the fiercest dry cough imaginable, about a month ago, that went away in a couple days; in Chicago, where the first USA cases were.

Like I said, I 100% support erring on the side of caution but some parts of the “erring” are too weird to not mention for conversation’s sake.

There must be some kind of way outta here
Said the joker to the thief
There’s too much confusion
I can’t get no relief

Business men, they drink my wine
Plowman dig my earth
None were level on the mind
Nobody up at his word

Trying to bulk grocery shop about once every other week. I stopped at two Crest’s today - one in OKC and one in Norman. They were so busy you couldn’t find a place to park. I decided to wait.

I’ve been doing this my entire adult life, it’s so crazy to me that this is my moment to shine. I’m like a Shaolin warrior when it comes to buying groceries at night and not interacting with other people.

Good. Fuck 'em. Tots and pears. They didn’t listen to scientists, why should I fucking care if they catch the flu?

Oh yeah, I’m not claiming any special insight here - although once they get an antibody test, retrospectively it should be pretty easy to look back and see when this actually showed up.

I went to the grocery store tonight. I had a cart so when I went to the register, I used the cart as a buffer between me and the person in front of me. Of course that didn’t stop 3 people from standing behind me on line. They were annoyed I wouldn’t move the cart up to the person in front of me. I eventually stood in front of my cart in order to create a buffer between the person in front and the 3 in back. They were NOT happy but IDGAF.

Oh and the 3 behind me were senior citizens (I live in Florida). I should have coughed on them.

Read an article somewhere where a scientist said this is going to be an 18 month event. I believe it. The virus doesn’t care about the economy or capitalism. It’s like the Terminator. It will not rest, it will not sleep. It does not care or have mercy. But hey-o! In 2 weeks everything will be hunky-dory according to the Dotard.

Lol sometimes misheard lyrics make sense, sometimes they sound like Buckwheat sings Dylan.

None of them along the line know what any of it is worth.

I think the world will get its shit together with a vaccine and better treatment (suppressive drugs) before 18 months is up. I expect things to be bad for 6 months, though.

yep. It used to be a much better place to work. When he got hired, they had maybe 1500 employees. now they have more than 10000 and they have not handled that scale up well at all.

This latest bullshit is sealing it for us, i think. Time to look for a new job.

Skynet really screwed up. Why send back a Terminator when all you had to do was send CoVID back to 1980s and if it didn’t kill Kyle and Sarah outright well it’d surely taken out John next outbreak

So our restaurant plans to pay me for the shifts they scheduled for the next two weeks, like i have 4 shifts a week so they’re gonna give me 6 hours of minimum wage for each day and then probably lay me off after we get shut down for longer but anyways. So I haven’t really been contacted directly by a manger to explain what is happening at the restaurant, but I heard from another coworker they are having 2 servers a day actually come in and help with to go orders, and so I’m like cool I’ll await them calling me and being like come in Sunday morning for your shift or whatever and I’ll work it and clean and do whatever.

So I get a call this afternoon saying the PM server called out, and they’re calling me because I was actually scheduled tonight, and they said if I don’t come in and work this shift then I actually won’t get paid for my shift today, like what the fuuuuuuck guys how does that make sense but since I don’t want to fight it I got ready and came straight into work. Btw like multiple people have just left the city because they specifically told us at first to not come in, and now those people are being called like be here tomorrow for your shift or else!

Anyways its like the biggest joke in the entire world like the higher higher ups were just like “keep the restaurant open for to go orders” and then like didn’t explain to anyone how this was suppose to work or what was to happen or anything so its just like the biggest possible clusterfuck for the 10 orders I took the entire night. Like a host answers the phone and talks to the guest and explains everything, then I go to a computer and ring the order in, then I go to the kitchen and explain when they’re gonna pick it up or whatever, then i radio a manager because its just an employee picking up a togo order and i need a discount. So like every single order I’m completely fucking confused on what to do and I have to call a manager over to fix everything. Like a guy walked in the door with gloves and his own to go bag and was like I’m here for my order! and we had no idea what he was talking about. Shit like that. Also absolutely no plan for “deep cleaning” like hey get a rag and some sanitizer and walk around wiping tables? Or maybe you should pull out that fridge and sweep and mop behind it? whatever man its up to you!

Like seriously if you order take out at a restaurant right now you’re fucking insane. Its like even worse than a restaurant being normally open.

I’ve crossed over to just being scared, but I don’t think there’s anything I can do (outside of staying home all the time) so I try not to worry about it. We’re good on groceries for awhile, could maybe make it two weeks if we had to.

The one thing I’m thankful for is the dog park at our complex where I can go and chat with acquaintances from 6 feet away. If they close that I don’t know what I’ll do.

Everyone was ignoring social distancing and flocking to Bondi Beach (Sydney’s best beach and Australia’s most famous, if anyone doesn’t know), so the NSW government closed it.

I’m so glad I’m not in the restaurant business. I used to be a manager at Pizza Hut back in the '90’s. I got treated like shit, worked 70+ hours a week and got fired because another manager misappropriated funds in the safe. I wasn’t even working, it was my day off LOL.

I’m staying w/ friends right now. Both are managers in the restaurant business. We are in Florida. My one buddy was sent a text tonight at 6 PM that there was a mandatory manager meeting tomorrow at 10 AM. He’s scheduled to work 4-Close. We all know he’s getting laid off. But his boss can’t even just say that. He has to be cryptic and shit. So my buddy has to get up at 8, dress up for work, assume he’s getting fired but maybe not, in which case he’ll work til 1 AM. But he’s probably getting fired. But we don’t know. Welcome to being a restaurant employee!

His wife is also a restaurant manager at a different restaurant. She was told to cut staff by 90%. Wham, bam, thank you ma’am. These idiots just throw out numbers like it means nothing.

“Hi, yes. I know you’ve worked here for 11 years but we gotta let you go; K, thanks! Bye!”

And this is happening by the millions all over the US right now.

But hey, the GOP will throw a couple hundreds our way to keep us happy. And it will work. Fucking people man. SMH.
