Worth it.
those wings look crazy good and have me thinking about picking some up tonight
No, really. Trump hauled out Wal-mart and others to tell us the supply chains were fine and today he said they were broken because everyone was sick. Which is it?
I’m not buying it without further information and more studies.
One particularly concerning line is that they do not have a documented case of smear infection. Well how in the fuck would they even know how most people are infected when they present days to weeks after infection? And why would healthcare workers in China and Korea be wearing space suits instead of a simple respirator? (And don’t forget, tons of healthcare workers in Wuhan got sick and died until they started wearing space suits. Same thing is going on in Italy.) Also, why would they be disinfecting entire cities in China? Sidewalks and railings and everything.
I’ll continue to assume smear transmission is a high risk until we get much more information than that article.
I’d rather eat Covid than onions and mushrooms yuck
I think they really mean:
That’s a really long article. IMO, what you’re missing is that Dr. Fauci has said the virus can be acquired through your mouth. All the rest seems like window-dressing. Virus + mouth = problem. May be an oversimplification…but I’m not going to be the one to be the guinea pig for the validity of the story’s theory.
Some difference between a quick trip into a store vs being among patients for days on end.
In the end if you don’t want to get it then stay home and eat only what you have in the house and if you order food get rid of the containers and rezap before eating. Or buy non perishables by deliver and either wipe everything down or quarantine the food for a few days.
Otherwise you are assuming some small risk. Personally I’m taking that risk. We go for walks daily and trying to limit stores to 1-2 per week with gloves on. Will be fun to try and get the Mrs to wear some kind of homemade mask.
I don’t think we can say it’s a small risk based on one article which is based on one study which seems to contradict tons of other stuff I’ve read, plus what I can see happening based on responses in different countries.
If the primary risk is only respiratory then health care workers could easily get away with using a respirator and then decontamination at the end of every shift.
Great way to bring in new business quickly.
I could listen to an Italian reading the obituaries and it would sound cute and silly to me.
One thing that feels pretty safe to say is the primary risk is being around someone who has it for an extended period - wedding, conference, dinner, living together, lovers, hugging, hanging out at a bar all night, etc.
Brief encounters and diligent hand-washing maybe aren’t impossible to transfer it - but seem much much lower.
To further follow up on this supply chain thing, Pompeo blah blah’d about making sure work visas got worked out or some crap today which, if there were or are issues, seems like a huge problem for the harvesting part of our supply chain.
70 people out of 175 at the Biogen leadership conference got infected. There must be a lot more intimate activity going on at Biogen meeting than at any conference I’ve ever attended. (I think it was a one day meeting, but I’m unable to confirm.)
All I know is that I’m sure glad I decided not to attend 3 or 4 conferences in Feb and early Mar when people were begging me to attend. (Obviously, because they had tons of cancellations.)
I specifically mentioned conferences. You’re in the same airspace all day with people. Sitting crammed into chairs next to each other listening to talks. Shaking hands. Eating together. Standing around in small groups talking. It’s like a wedding w/less dancing and hugging. But it goes on longer.
It’s the opposite of a brief encounter where you’re just near someone or in a store for a few minutes.
