SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

I’m panicking reading this and can’t imagine how you feel. Good luck.

It is tilting how only little bit more of early effort could have paid exponential divides in a positive direction. The US government is still not doing the things that clearly need be done for tomorrow. It is completely disheartening.

Imagine the horror if the world was stuck with 100k extra ventilators as this thing fizzled out.

Also can’t wait (if we are around that long) for the next incident that is demonstrably not as bad but leads to wild overreaction so the next time a real crisis comes we again sit on our hands.

Trump doesn’t want the blame or responsibility for anything so he continues to do nothing, which is exactly the opposite of what you want from a leader in a crisis.

What exactly is coming? I know the market will crash, but how bad?

But can’t you make that argument for anything? Do worker safety laws actually kill more people by suppressing commerce?

didnt realize over 14K cases now man, jesus, 6400 to 9300 to 14200, tomorrow could be 20+

For starters, we’re probably going to hit double digit unemployment numbers before the end of the month.

Lol you could have won money getting me to bet it was Mark Wahlburg - and I remember that movie really well (or thought I did). I saw in the theater with my Dad and I walked out thinking - shit this has a good chance of happening in my lifetime.

They took blood and are doing a ct scan. Went down to 91 oxygen but is going up and down.

Plus they can throw Feinstein in so it’s bipartisan.

Just go. If I can go for a walk in my neighborhood or go pick up take out (both allowed) - you can drive to an empty jobsite. Sounds like the first week will be pretty much voluntary then they might start cracking down if people don’t follow it.

Keep the updates going as long as you feel up to it. We are pulling for you guys to be alright.

IFR is encouraging low for people under 60. Not to wish anything bad on people over 60. I have just been concerned that we might come through a fog and see much higher fatality rates in younger age groups.

Again though, all bets are off if/when hospitals are overrun.

Holy shit. Hope she gets through OK. Silver lining is that they probably still have a hospital bed and/or vent for her if needed Of course, I really hope it doesn’t come to that.

I posted about this local distillery in the alcohol thread about a week ago. I was previously a member here. Still a huge customer. What they’re doing is amazing (a lot of small distillers have started doing the same). They refuse to charge for the disinfectant they’re making, and a lot of local wineries and other businesses have stepped up and donated bottles etc… to help them out.

US numbers are largely a function of how much we’re testing. New cases probably aren’t more than doubling every 2 days - just tested new cases. Although of course actual cases are many multiples higher.

The Springs resident says that her friend, a nurse out here, reported that a wealthy Manhattan woman who tested positive called tiny Southampton Hospital to say she was on her way and needed treatment.

The woman was told to stay in Manhattan.

Instead, she allegedly got on public transportation, telling no one of her condition. Then she showed up at Southampton Hospital, demanding admittance.

“Someone else took a private jet to East Hampton and did not tell anybody till he landed,” the resident says. “That’s the most horrendous aspect. The virus is already here, and we don’t have any medical resources.”

“We’re at the end of Long Island, the tip, and waves of people are bringing this s–t,” says lifelong Montauker James Katsipis. “We should blow up the bridges. Don’t let them in.”

Expect a lot more of this.

Here’s a detailed breakdown:

Unless we pause all of it, UBI everyone, and then press play when this is over and hold our breaths that it worked.

There’s not much that can be said. Thanks for showing up. Everyone continuing to show up to work in hospitals during this has the thanks of a grateful nation.
