SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

And 45% of America lives in that reality with him.

My mother’s view is that the states are fucking things up and Donnie is saving the day. Her view is likely shared with other deplorables.

It’s so goddamn sinister because this whole thing was planned from the beginning. Let it get bad, let people die and then be the hero. People naturally rally around leaders in a crisis. It’s happening in America. The most popular party in the CR has enjoyed an enormous boost in popularity during the coronavirus also (though not through a devious, sinister plan like Trump).

Eh. Chinese stats aren’t and have never been accurate. They’ve beaten the rest of us to the second stage of this by virtue of having gotten it first…

The current status they are releasing are obvious propaganda.

The only country faking the stats in this day and age is the one you’re sat in.

Yeah I don’t believe our stats either ldo… But the CCP aren’t some benevolent bunch of do gooders who couldn’t tell a lie lol. Their economic numbers have been propaganda since they started releasing them lol.

This. So very this.

How much did the Chinese under estimate by? And why would it matter?

I’m not looking at that graph thinking China did great. I’m looking at the other line with the 67m population and thinking ‘fook’

Update from Oklahoma:

I went out for the first time in roughly a week yesterday to get a few groceries. Was shocked at the number of people out. Families, children, very old; I parked next to a WW2 veteran who was driving and shopping for himself. No one here is taking it seriously at all.

Just got off the phone with my sister (29). She’s on her way to tribal health to get tested or at least seen (says she has chest tightness. Probably anxiety). She’s a wedding planner at a really nice venue south of Norman. They aren’t canceling any weddings. She met with a bride and family yesterday. They have a wedding planned this weekend for 300+ guests. Sister says the venue’s lawyer says it’s fine for them to have the wedding.

This country deserves what’s about to happen. Just like it deserved Trump.

Those ventilators are going to have some SaaS internet of shit kind of stuff on them

I think Trump’s original plan for dealing with the virus was obviously to downplay it and then hope it didn’t turn out to be very bad or noticeable within the system, like the flu. When that clearly wasn’t going to work, he made a shift in strategy and is now taking the “I alone can fix it. Watch me save the world” approach. As he likes to say, he had “no choice”.

UK needs 20,000 more ventilators

Grunching. And poorer developing countries without the money/infrastructure to test widely.

It matters because people look at the Chinese numbers and get false hope. Then after that false hope turns out to be false they’ll think that if only they lived under a totalitarian regime like the CCP they would have had it better.

DUCY this might be a bad thing?

I think you’re around 15 years out of date. The Chinese population travel more than some other large countries you know and many live abroad these days. They all seem to return home at their own will.

If they were North Korea stats I’d apply your logic.

DUCY why just ignoring them is a bad thing?

I do think the China stats have to be taken with a grain of salt, but if they were just making up the numbers, why report thousands of deaths? Why not hundreds?

Try being someone who’s had lingering sinus issues (like a runny nose) and cough on and off for like a year. I won’t know I’ve got it until I’m dead basically.

I guess a high fever would be a giveaway, but alas, no thermometer.

China, like a lot of countries, has different classes of people. Also totalitarian does not equal poor. The basic deal the CCP has with the population is that as long as things are basically fine and improving there’s no need for them to think too much about politics.

That absolutely doesn’t mean that the CCP doesn’t have a propaganda operation with tens of thousands of full time employees working around the clock day in and day out doing stuff like controlling their internet.

To answer JordanIB’s question they needed to warn the world what was coming. If they hadn’t it would have been a diplomatic/economic disaster. Also at the time they were a bit more desperate and needed to keep the option of getting outside help open. Now that they have the virus a bit more contained and a system in place it’s back to propaganda time.

All their numbers meant was ‘something really bad is happening and you guys should take it very seriously’. Now that that message has been sent they have absolutely no reason to update their numbers further… and they aren’t. The message they want to send the world is that something bad happened and now they have it under control. That could be true, or it could not be, and it wouldn’t change the messaging strategy.

I’m surprised I’m having to remind people ITT that this is the same government that is carrying out a full bore genocide against the Uighurs, was the red team in the whole HK thing last year, and is solely responsible for propping up North Korea who have the worlds only fully functioning Nazi/Stalinist style death camps. These are not good people.
