SARS-CoV-2: Electric Superflu

Been nice knowing you.

I am the same. Spring brings flowers and pollen. I’d normally just put up with a little stuffiness but going full on Zyrtec and sudafed. Of course the sudafed dries me out which brings on an occasional cough. No winning.

Take a nap. I bet you’ll wake up feeling fine.

Never panic for this. You haven’t been in contact with anybody with coronavirus, right?

If it gets worse and you start coughing more, get a fever etc, then call a doctor or whatever hotline you’re supposed to call and get a test.

I’ve had dry eyes and a runny/stuffy nose on and off for weeks. Just allergies.

Runny nose usually isn’t a COVID symptom, so no.

I mean I have an anxiety disorder so it’s easy for me to panic over small things like you stated.

What’s fucked up is me looking at other countries getting worse and going, “Well, it isn’t so bad here. At least I don’t live in [insert worse off country here].” in order to keep cool. Sure, it works but it’s completely illogical (and even a bit sadistic) to take comfort in other places getting worse as a way to ignore things getting worse here.

Well, there’s the rub. I don’t think I’ve been in contact with anybody with coronavirus, but if it’s true that people are at their most contagious prior to having symptoms, there’s no way for me to know.

But it’s not a common symptom. I remember seeing some source compare the prevalence of symptoms of coronavirus as compared to allergies, cold and the flu.

Runny nose and sore throat were possible but far less common than fatigue, fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

The UK have narrowed this to: -

Continuous Dry Cough (no phlem, no sputum)
Fever (37.8c, 100f)
Difficulty Breathing ~50% cases (Dial 111 if difficulty breathing when stood still, report via web otherwise)

Damn sorry, I thought Iread from a reputable source that runny nose wasn’t a symptom but looks like it sometimes is.

Main things to look out for seem to be dry cough, fever, and difficulty breathing.

How can we be confident we know what the symptoms are if we’re only selectively testing people based on what we believe the symptoms are?

I hope you’re ignoring your government’s advice to return.

Seems like some covid-19 cases get runny noses, but if you have a runny nose but no dry cough or fever, you’ve almost certainly got the common cold, not covid-19.

Or hay fever at this time of year.

Right, seasonal allergies are pretty darn likely, too.

I didn’t even know that advice was given.

While I could theoretically leave the CR for the USA, I wouldn’t be able to return. Plus I’m a pretty huge favorite for coronavirus given the wait time at a lot of airports there.

Honest truth, I did briefly contemplate leaving the country for a place with less of a coronavirus problem. However, I figure that eventually every country will be affected and that not knowing when I’ll be able to reenter is not a good thing should the schools open.

I was thinking I had a cold, but then I was like, “How the hell do I have a cold? Wouldn’t I catch a cold the same way I’d catch COVID-19? There’s a leak in my game!”

So I’ve decided it’s allergies.

Let the record show that in March 2020 you could not buy a $1 N95 mask anywhere but could acquire an N64 at one of 4,500 Gamestop retail locations nationwide.

And it’d just cost $1!

We crib notes from what the South Koreans have learned because they seem to have their shit together.

False but I would not be surprised if the average market price of an N95 > N64. Maybe the single best indicator of a respiratory virus outbreak.
