He goes in for gas, and as he goes in a caution comes out. If he was able to get a splash of gas and get back out, and the others who hadn’t come in yet have to go back in to pit, he’ll pass them all. The key was getting into the pits without losing the lead lap. I think it might have happened. But if the caution came out before he was on pit road, I’m pretty sure he would not be allowed to come pit.
it’s so funny, I spent the first 3rd of my marriage around racing and tracks, but half of this thread is like reading another language.

Fuck, he didn’t make it down pit road before, so that’s a worst case scenario for Bubba. He gives up a top 5 spot to pit, and a caution comes out before he can pit so it’s just as if he slowed down for no reason due to the bad luck. All the way back to 24th, what a fucking terrible break.

It also pisses me off that, despite the fact that he’s been running at the front for the last 50 laps, led briefly, and was in contention… nary a mention of what just went down for Bubba on the broadcast.
Guess they were done talking about him after they waxed poetic at the beginning about how awesome it was that NASCAR came together.
Meanwhile, personally, I had Bubba running in fourth who would have a shot to win if the caution came out and if not for my emotional rooting interest, I had Almirola at 20-to-1 odds if they stayed green who would have a very good shot to win in that scenario. Managed to thread the needle to fuck both those scenarios.
It’s a fucking hillbilly sport, I tell ya.

I don’t know how the announcers are now, but man did they have some really bad ones over the years. Eli Gold was the absolute nut worst.
Holy shit BUbba went from 24th to 10th in one lap, I don’t know how.
Dick Trickle was quite the charactar. He used to smoke cigarettes under caution. And ESPN used to find an excuse to mention Dick Trickle every Sunday.

Bubba finishes 14th, Almirola at 20-to-1 gets wrecked coming to the line and finishes third. Fucking stupid sport.

Another scene I’ve never seen at a race before. Bubba got out of his car after the race, and walked across the infield and the track up to a group of black fans wearing I Can’t Breathe t-shirts and supporting him, and shook hands through the fence. When interviewed, he apologized for not wearing a mask but said he wanted to show whoever did this that they’re not going to take his smile away. He then pointed to the fans and said, “First time they’ve ever been to a race, they came from Atlanta. This sport is changing.”
He said in reference to the show of support before the race, “We should have won that damn race, ran out of gas, but we won the day.”
