JT, for years, was one of the most chill posters. He had an absolutely immaculate rep. Cassette was always even nicer. He was one of the very nicest posters on the forum period. Ok, they got mad. That’s why “irreparable” keeps coming up. Maybe if the culture changed here, which takes a while, and a fair amount of time passed, then people would chillax.

I appreciate that, but didn’t say I was willing to put in any effort, at least in regards to other people’s feuds. I’m willing to be honest and usually fair and calm with everyone, but that’s about it. I’m not asking JT to be friendly to CN. And, if I do give a shit at this point, it’s a really tiny shit; more of a shart.
And, I talk so much shit (a lot of it is just trying to be funny and entertain people) behind people’s backs, that at this point it would be ridiculous for me to ask anyone to be nice to anyone else online.
If anyone wants to start a PM thread to make fun of JT behind his back lmk.
I’m going to preface this by saying I wish/want for there to be a solution to solve most or all of the feuds at this point. But if we have people (on both sides) saying it is unfixable then what is the point of all this?
We should either try to reconcile the issues to the extent people want to or just leave it be. Rehashing this stuff every few weeks isn’t healthy for anyone.
I remember back when someone was trying to codify rules. And then we had the RFC process. Some different mod rules have been tried. None of it works really. There likely isn’t a perfect solution. But this place was better when we had little to no moderation at the beginning. Yes that made this place nastier at times. People still had feuds and disliked each other. But we didn’t have years long discussions about who should and shouldn’t be banned.
And I’ve said this before but just so that we are clear I myself poured gasoline on these things. Not just once. I regret doing that. I apologize for doing that. It wasn’t productive for me or anything else here.
What I would propose is to unban everyone. Nuke permanent bans. End the RFC process that doesn’t work. Vote on an upper bound for temp bans. Keep rotating mods. Allow the mods leeway to temp people but make the threshold for mod removal something like 50% in one vote so that the mods don’t get too far out on a limb. Make bickering about this shit, discussing captains or old grudges as a way to win arguments subject to an auto day off or something small but intended to de-escalate these issues.
Not sure why I am even commenting here because I don’t want to argue with anyone on either “side”. I guess because I do still care about this place and wish it was more the way it used to be. I tend to agree that things probably can’t be reconciled especially because it’s obvious some people on both sides don’t want that. Which is fine. That’s their choice.

Oh of course not. You can’t control the behavior of others, no one here should waste much time even attempting to do so.
There’s not much point to any of it other than killing time and playing games on the internet, but maybe some friendships were made that outweigh the enemyships and, lord, has this all been educational. I know people haven’t all reached the same conclusions, but it’s been a heck of a case study.

You think I like CN way more than I do dude. I’m not “friends” with him. I like how they post on a few of the smaller volume threads here, that’s about it. Jal and I support the same football club but couldn’t even discuss that without some really nasty stuff. That’s the difference for me between them. I can go into the soccer threads during a Canada/USA game and take jabs at pulisic without CN personally insulting me! That’s really it!
Maybe there are some pm stuff, but I’ve never seen anything! If anything seriously went on it would have been in the discord really, and that place is 1000x nicer than it has been here the last two years. They’ve even helped people on “your side” make a lot of money and given them their time and effort out of kindness.

Like I said, I submit this is primarily because people aren’t subject to having their posts and their right to post judged all the time. If the sides weren’t already determined over here, which started around who supported and who objected to bans, you wouldn’t even have those divisions.

56 total active users. This site regularly had 180+ DAU and much higher totals even as of fairly recently. Far cry from 60% . But, good to know your super secret special forum is such a raging success at a fraction of the userbase of even the tiniest most obscure reddits. I guess that means y’all can fuck off from this site and forget about it?

Also, comment on the meta here, this is the “start a silly derail to try to diffuse a fight” maneuver. I have done this lots of times in the past even though this time I was really first thinking about the joke and then thought about the maneuver as an afterthought. Trolly uses this maneuver a lot when he’s trying to break up fights.
