If it’s not 12 Jaki tracks it gets chalked up as a group failure imo.
Here we go and away we go and away we go and here we go
Let’s get some cyan love up in this …thread.

Rufio - Above Me
(Drums: -)
So this was one of a couple of submissions involving youtube performances of songs, and I found them problematic as what should I judge? The song, (which this lad had ~nothing to do with,) or just his drumming (which is not much without the song)? Anyway…
I mostly dislike US punk like this and, tragically for our submitter, a thing I particularly dislike is the drum beat they all use. It’s the one that’s throughout this track where they smack the snare hard on every beat. It’s just too much, it feels like there’s no space or ability to do anything else.
The youtube proved even sadder as I could hear the bass drum more and realise it uses a double bass pedal. Sad as I mostly think they’re a bit silly. You lose a lot of the expressiveness of the hi-hat just to play the bass a little bit faster? No. (I know you can have both pedals and even play them at the same time, don’t @ me as that’s still silly.)
And the song, I dunno, it’s just not for me. Sorry.
I was going to try to pander to your tastes but then I realized that the winner is probably going to be someone hitting a woodblock for 12 minutes so I decided to submit a song in which I enjoy the super fast drumming but I hedged a little by submitting a video of some dude drumming it out since I’d guess you would hate the original song.
It is really fast, but it’s the song I’m judging and I think you knew this was coming so I don’t feel too bad.
by youtube do you mean specifically made for youtube? because aren’t all the submissions on youtube?
confused.
This one is not mine.
come on, it can’t be that confusing
hmm, more specifically, are live performances judged more harshly?
(I never would have considered submitting a cover like randoms make for youtube, tbh)
Not sure if it’s clear, but that’s the song plus some dude’s drumming over the top of it as well.
What’s it like to play on one of those electronic kits? Is your feel all wonky when you go back to a real kit? Must be nice to practice without the neighbors hating you.
it’s a dude filming himself on his iphone doing a drum cover to a song and uploading it to his youtube channel.
it could be amazing and maybe it’s the best drumming ever, i’m clueless about drumming abilities
lol I guess this concept is so foreign to me that it literally never crossed my mind that this was a thing.
Like, why not just submit the original song?
I’ve mostly played on an electronic kit for years. The worst things are the lack of bounce off the surface, (but you can get very good kits that have that fairly decent), and then just the lack of all the different ways you can wack a drum and make a different sound. But, if you live in an apartment what are you going to do?
The implication is that the poster prefers this random youtube drummer to the band’s drummer.
maybe the dude is a far better drummer? i don’t know the original song or band.
Maybe.
I think it’s far more likely that I’m just too old and out of touch to get the whole youtubez culture
That’s mine. I didn’t submit the original song because I figured he’d hate it but maybe I could allure him with a video of someone drumming fast. Here’s the original song if anyone cares:
I always thought these guys had really sweet drums and I couldn’t think of anything else.

System of a Down - Toxicity
(Drums: 0)
This one is a 9 year old girl playing it.
My consultant told me not to submit this, but I’m going to anyway. I doubt you are a SOAD fan but this kid is pure energy; pure passion. I dare you to not grin along with her.
More self awareness, at least it makes this easier.
I dunno, I was pretty immune to her energy if I’m honest. I just find it hard to empathise with people who like SOAD. Lol, jokes. Anyway, like an old curmudgeon, I think twirling your sticks while playing is also a bit silly. And the fills are a bit rubbish, though that’s not her fault. But, as above, I don’t think she’s relevant to judging much at all. Sorry, Nandi.
The song was better than I thought it would be, there were bits I wasn’t that annnoyed by. It’s a bit heavier than the last one so it’s no real surprise that I liked it a bit more. His singing was a bit folk-ish at times. The drums are fine for what it is. That’s enough.
Because it’s a cover and because you get to see the drummer’s performance. (not mine btw).
wasn’t me but fwiw that girl is like a huge internet thing now because she got Dave Grohl to “battle her” and it’s all viral and shit.
How dare you, sir. That’s me and it’s one of my favorite youtubes of all time.
