Reveal Thread: Walrus Grab Bag 2 - The Walrus Strikes Back

I was going to attribute this to Mr. Consistency but I think he said he hates ska so maybe not. Maybe swanky

I highly doubt this is Swanky. There are 3 songs I think could possibly be his.

Your swankyradar is correct

Phase - Breaking Benjamin

Commentary - The hardest category for me. All the songs I knew with screams were old and really familiar, so I admit to using google…I didn’t realize BB had re-formed and released newer stuff, but I actually like this.

Sorry this category was a tough one! Thanks for taking time to find something. For your efforts I award you 2 points. And while most other contestants will get more points, of all the points allocated in my reveal I feel these 2 points in particular are the best.

Yeah Breaking Benjamin are definitely adjacent to stuff I used to listen to. I just find them a bit bland, and in a category this strong I couldn’t find a higher spot for it. You were on the right track with this submission though.

All I had I gave - Crowbar

Based on all the information I have given, this is totally a category fit. I’m not entirely sure why the song didn’t do more for me, and not sure it’s at all helpful for me to try and explain. I think I just didn’t really like the vocals here and for whatever reason this didn’t give me much energy.

Avoided the nodium!

Gonna guess Breaking Benjamin was NBZ? Just as someone unlikely to listen to screamy music

Monterey - Tim Buckley

Probably the hardest track for me to place. I want to like Tim Buckley more than I actually do. Initially I found this to be excellent. Beautiful voice, and the wailing draws me into the sound more and more. It’s almost entrancing. But then I get frustrated, because once it hits around the 3 minute mark the vocals and wails just turn into what sounds more like someone fucking around because they ran out of lyrics but the music is still going. If this was cut at 3 minutes I think I probably have it close to the podium, even in this very competitive category. Listening to it again now I still can’t tell if I am going to feel completely differently about this one in a little while.

The Pot - Tool

Feels very weird to put this song so low. Tool are my favourite band of all time. This is one of their most accessible songs and I really like it. I’ve just listened to it so many times already. I’d also signaled I like Tool when posting my category since I listed one of their older tracks so I think its reasonable to guess I might already be familiar with one of their more popular tracks. Apologies to whoever submitted this one - it’s clearly a good fit but I can’t find a higher place for it.

This isn’t me, but I love Tim Buckley. Not so much this song.

Believe - Kings X

A groovy, laid back track with a positive message. This initially suffered in the rankings due to just feeling so different to the mood the rest of the playlist was bringing. Since I know this is my pal Rivdog, I can tell you KingsX still don’t quite click for me, but with each listen I have appreciated this song more.

This was just something really good to be hearing at the moment. Thanks for bringing the love!

Had no idea how my entry would do, so very happy to see that I’m median at worst.

Kurt Cobain does have some pretty good screams. He was the first person that popped into my head.
