I’m not buying that Trump is ahead in NY on election night. Today was the last day of early voting, and over 1.1 million people have voted in person in NYC, which is 40.5% of the city’s 2016 turnout.

Statewide, 2.3 million absentee ballots have been requested. That’s 30.7% of the state’s 2016 turnout. Some of the people who requested ballots won’t ever send them in, and others may choose to vote in person instead of by mail.

538 is projecting that Biden wins New York by 30 points. So even if election day turnout is huge, it won’t skew Trump enough to overcome the enormous amount of in person votes that have already been counted.

Everything’s going to be fine, we’ll all be fine. Biden’s going to win. It’s the lock of teh century. Nothing is going to change between now and 6 pm on Tuesday when the results start coming in. Unless one of the candidates drops dead at this point this race is locked in and we have enough poles now to know that the race isn’t tightening. Even a few outlier poles like the Selzer poles dropping wouldn’t change that.

Also, of course you’re right. Not many people on the anti-Trump side are going to be willing to do it. What percentage of people think that Facebook is literally a significant threat to democracy and won’t even stop using it to schedule parties? Blocking a freeway is a lot harder.

I think this is Nates point though. National polls are useful if you don’t have state polls (just like you’re doing) but are very imperfect. We know that the makeup of Biden’s vote is different than that of Hillary’s. The national polls don’t tell us how that affects the change in each state. I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to be skeptical of State polls that don’t show the same margin change - particularly when the state polls show us the change in voter make up for that State.

I mean on the one hand this is awesome, on the other hand it kind of makes sense when you consider:

1. Worst economy since the Great Depression;
2. Worst handling of a pandemic since 1918;
3. Worst race relations since the 60’s;
4. Worst International relations since WW2
5. Worse presidential corruption than even Nixon and Jackson;

44% approval.

Yeah, I’m firmly in the “biden is a lock but I’m still very depressed” camp.

I’m going to be checking the Florida early voting breakdown tomorrow morning. Random dude on Twitter (I have no idea how reliable he is) told me that we want to be at least 120k above Republicans. And if we’re 200+ that’s really good.

That should be enough to send me into a despair cycle when it’s like 105.
