I’d walk through broken glass for Antonio Carrasco over Trump or MM.
That’s a bold strategy, Cotton!
Honestly Trump probably gonna give them a 3 billion dollar grant and a fleet of b25s
Are you such a shitty person that you were let go from an american police force? Florida wants you! We take being the state with the shittiest people on average very seriously and you could give us that vital edge we need.
This is excellent news. Reform efforts already underway from within.
I think one specific type of crime is up - possibly drug dealing. Which, whatever I guess. I’m not too worried about that and the model is a success.
Would it matter to you if the drug dealing was part of an organized criminal enterprise that also trafficked in violence and or sex crimes?
My most recent negative experience with cops was scouting places to move to… we were in Orlando and got stopped for ‘running a stop sign’ I most assuredly didn’t (I’m very careful about traffic laws in places I don’t know for exactly this reason). He probably just thought I was a tourist with out of state tags and hoped I had a record out of state, some drugs, etc. Completely insane for a tourist cities cop to be trying tourists.
Bad is relative. I think our individual perceptions of the shades of gray is where most of our disagreements lie.
To be clear the reason I like you is that you have high expectations of people but at least own up to your own falling short of those expectations.
And I never used the words PC. This is opportunistic and the standards are ever updating. We should be basing our expectations on a standard that doesn’t invalidate 90% of the talent.
Photos from the past 48 hours of demonstrations around the world, where thousands of people marched to show solidarity with American protests over the killing of George Floyd
A lot of great pics.
There’s some good ones here.
ACAB in the background. “All Cops are bastards”
I agree man but we are absolutely fucked in the messaging battle because we have the truth to adhere to and they don’t. It’s futile.
Every election mostly comes down to like 3 issues at most. Making sure it’s the right issues and the right frame is everything.
If this election is about:
That’s great for Biden. We want to keep pandemic and healthcare 1-2, and we want this to be framed as reforming police. We want to blame the unrest on Trump and hang it around his neck. If we let it be about defunding/abolishing that’s bad for us and good for Trump. Trump wants the three issues to be the economic recovery under his billionaire brain leadership, law and order with an iron fist, and Biden corruption.
The optimal line here is to have a popular reform plan that is strong, and to paint Trump as incompetent and unable to solve the problem and thus to blame for the unrest. You want to be able to bash him for hiding in his bunker tear gassing American civilians instead of trying to fix the problem.
A major problem not mentioned here with police is their OT. Its a substantial part of their budget. Basically everything is greenlit and not audited. I saw a tweet saying the average Dallas Police Officer had 420 hours of OT a year. Thats either complete adjucation of resources or fraud.
so my friend who is a deputy city clerk and is working the city council meeting today says that they have 148 callers in the queue to talk about police funding. Which is great, except the majority of them are trying to go viral like the LA guy and they are all screaming fuck you and basically doing/saying nothing productive.
People just want to be memes…it’s so frustrating.
It’s been mentioned. Somebody posted a guy who had something like 3,650 hours of OT in one year LOL
I mean do they actually care/listen or is it just a dog and pony show? They’re just going to do what gets them elected/money and they already know what that is and they’ll poll to figure out the rest. I assume anyways.
It’s just pension fraud. Its so that they end up with a pension that is basically equivalent to their base wages for life.
Even grassroots movements need leaders. It’s perfectly fine (actually it’s great) if regular folk want to jump on the “Abolish/Defund the Police” bandwagon. They don’t have to be as eloquent as MLK to be important or impactful.
