I’d guess around 2500 people. Much bigger than anyone expected - one of the organizers said they thought it might only be 200. While we were marching I actually got pretty emotional. Really, really diverse group - lots of people with “Armenians for Black Lives” signs, which was really nice to see.
There were large protests pretty much everyday I was in Seoul back in November. There was also a huge police presence, which was mostly comprised of 18-22 year olds doing their compulsory service. ZERO violence or threats, it was beautiful. As an American it was almost bizarre to see such large groups of forces without some kind of violence. South Korea has a lot figured out, that place rocks.
I generally like Mitt, especially, as others have pointed out, when you grade him on the conservative curve. Having said that, criticism against Mitt is usually right on target, and its kind of peak Mitt where he waits until public sentiment is 110% on the side of the protesters before he shows up.
Nonetheless, credit where credit is due. He could have gone full deplorable in 2016 and been Secretary of State. He could have gone with the flow during the impeachment nonsense. He could have laid low here during the Civil Rights Movement of 2020. That all counts for something.
Mason’s book thread made me think about this hypothetical the other day. I came to the sad conclusion that I’d walk through broken glass (or equivalent) for MM over Trump. That is how low we have sunk.
