Police Murder George Floyd Then Riot Nationwide (Links to Streams in OP)

Amazon actually explicitly endorsing the phrase “black lives matter” is a surprise, no?

Since these corporations base all actions on highest financial return, can someone explain what they are thinking here and why?

The tide is turning. Maybe?

I saw my mom for the first time in three months today. We’re in the same place on most issues, but we had an interesting chat about the Lee statue in Richmond that I wasn’t expecting, because she wasn’t on board with it coming down. Not because she’s any fan of the confederacy, but because she’s pro-history and thought it should stay up as a historical monument. I think I managed to sway her with the argument that these things belong in museums and not as objects in the public square to be venerated.

I’m kicking myself for missing a point when she argued, “Well, they have statues of George Washington, too.” Should’ve come back with, “Not in England, they don’t.”

ugh, deplorables are now trying to blame the 75-yr old man the Buffalo police shoved and left bleeding on the sidewalk. I saw this shared today in the comments of a FB post and almost punched my screen.

Interesting part of that wiki page

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer ran a front-page article about an I.W.W. ship being held that contained over a hundred thousand dollars to help I.W.W. members get out of jail.[4] This article proved to be false as the search of the vessel by local law enforcement turned up nothing of significance.

Afraid it was carrying bombs? No. Afraid of money meant to help people get out of jail.

I’m not blaming him and think they should be fired/charged, but walking up to that herd of marching goons was pretty stupid.

People don’t commit crimes based on police response. Almost all crimes are crimes of opportunity. Someone breaking into a house isn’t worried about the cops. They are worried about the home owner shooting them between the eyes.

My Dad’s Vietnam heroism story is he was an MP in the Army and got married just as they were sending all non-married soldiers, then had me just as they were sending all married childless soldiers. Then at some point they screwed up and were going to send him anyway. But he managed to get his congressman to write a letter. Or something like that. I haven’t heard the story in a while.

Dude’s blog is mostly about climate change and Guantanamo.

Deplorables think monitoring government communications is an offense? Of course. They hate freedom.

I’m pretty sure that was pre-arranged/approved, but don’t tell my kid.

My Dad’s Vietnam heroism story is that he weighed 400lbs and was not draftable. He worked for the Marines as a civilian (safety/industrial engineer) during the war though. (he had kids - probably wouldn’t have been drafted anyway)

I have a super sliding scale to conservatives with a conscience or whoever who want to come around and be anti-Trump. I’ll never really trust you. But for now, the more the merrier.

I actually like the strategy of announcing intent early. I saw city councilwoman interviewed today saying that they will reach out to community for ideas. But at the meta level, this strikes me as a negotiation anchor. Best to stake out a severe position early so that the negotiated solution still has teeth and achieves the goals of reducing police violence and systemic racism.

I read some stuff about the US - Philippine War that basically made it sound like one ongoing My-Lai massacre. It would surprise me if any of those types of wars - like the Korean War weren’t the same - and the Vietnam War didn’t have 100 more My-Lai’s that never got reported.

In retrospect we had no idea we had it that the worst case scenario for 8 years was McCain or Romney.

Seoul, South Korea

I want one of those NWA shirts.

That looks bigger than the RB one yesterday.

When did it go up?

With McCain, there was a chance he would die of old age or crash another plane, so the worst-case scenario was more like seven years of Palin.
