They might be “in charge,” but the Minneapolis mayor cannot just wave a magic wand and abolish the local police tomorrow and Trump cannot do the same with the military.
Law & Order: The Other White Meat
The mayors can tell the police to stop with the gearing up and attacking civil society and instead go back to passing out tickets.
And unfortunately the Democratic Party has zero desire for the fight. There may be some up and comers who might be in a position to fight and get policy wins, but the reality is even the most idealistic politicians get bent to conform with the system and not vice versa.
I grew up being taught to be considerate and listen to what others say. Was not until 2016 I realized that is nonsense and some people do not deserve my time or attention and should be directly dismissed. This is the same issue that plagues so many Democrats.
We do not have a president for the US. We have a president who ONLY represents his supporters and nobody else. Democratic leaders are going to grow some fortitude and start working for the people who support them. That means no holding hands and compromising with those who actively want to destroy everything their supporters want.
It is awful that our choice in this country is between horrorific and a little less bad.
The wealthy absolutely require a police state to hang onto their wealth and expand it.
They are cowards, just like the republicans. They don’t seem to understand that if you really believe something that is not supported by the majority, your job is to earn that support for the Idea and pass legislation.
We don’t need politicians to pass 51% initiatives, a calculator watch can do that.
Oh for sure. Also fighting for and supporting issues increases their popularity!
Yup. My wife and I got into watching The Rookie last year, now all I can think of is that The Rookie is to cops what The West Wing is to politics.
Like many tv shows, the police on The Rookie are painted with a golden halo. For me it is escapist fantasy to watch. Unfortunately not everyone is able to separate fact and fiction.
I have seen most of The Rookie episodes and I think the harshest portrayal of a cop was they tried to hard to catch the bad guy and it impacted their personal life.
I think Barney Miller was probably more realistic.
Salt Lake City: from a distance, the protest today at the State Capitol appears to be the largest so far, by a good margin. More people were arriving as I left my apartment, despite a fairly steady rain. I drove because of the rain but the cops have intersections at least partially blocked off fairly deep into downtown so it was a pain. Cop asked me if I lived in the area and that if I let them know on the way back, they’d let me in, which is nice of them Not going back tonight though. I’ll just stay at my friend’s. The dogs aren’t bad company.
Also went to the protest, Probably 500 people of all types, Hoover is a very affluent area and crowd was definitely mostly white, very peaceful had a bunch of speakers, just young people, all spitting hot fire. After it was over though they decided they were going to march and block the street. I wasn’t looking to get arrested today so didn’t participate but did stick around a while to see what happened and video it if anyone wants to see it. It kept going after these videos but there was local news there and such.
I live in Pickens, SC and my sister works at Home Depot for 12. Chick-Fil-A pays 12-13. Not even sure who pays 7 anymore so I think you might be confused. I work at a plant along with a ton of people and it starts at 13 and tops out around 21 for non-managers.
** Edit - I realize it’s the person you quoted that I am actually addressing. I’m just a lurker normally RIP.
Almost half of americans with jobs pay less than $20k a year
Almost half of all Americans work in low-wage jobs - CBS News
Well that’s before the 3000 hours of overtime
Holy shit, I knew it was bad but wtf not that bad.
That’s not this guy, right?
Honestly the move there is just to absolutely clown on them instead of getting angry. Although I’d probably try to determine if they were mentally ill first, like legit mentally ill, not how 40% of the country that supports Trump are also mentally ill but don’t deserve kindness or respect.
I don’t know why people are surprised by this. Unless you get a degree, it’s tough to even work full time now. Retail and the vast majority of places will give people 20-39 hours a week before giving them 40 depending on state laws of what benefits full time gets/what constitutes full time work.
