Police Murder George Floyd Then Riot Nationwide (Links to Streams in OP)

There was a lull in the Occupy movement too when the cities and cops decided to just leave everybody alone. It didn’t last very long and eventually everybody was forcibly and violently evicted. The general public had stopped caring weeks earlier.

Been seeing lots of people pushing voting so thats good. Still holding out a tiny amount of hope we have a huge turn out with young people.

Sydney had 20,000 people out for their protest. Some people got pepper sprayed after the conclusion of the rally, this was the police account of the incident:

In a statement, NSW Police said a man had been charged with offensive behaviour and resist police following the altercation just after 6pm last night.

“As police attempted to move a group of people through the station after the conclusion of the rally, some individuals reportedly became aggressive,” police said.

“When one man allegedly became violent, officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) attempted to remove him and a struggle ensued.

“The 21-year-old was arrested and, after the group became increasingly aggressive, OC spray was deployed. Five people were subsequently treated at the scene for the effects of OC spray.

Other than that the protests were peaceful, although the organisers of the Melbourne protest were all issued infringement notices of around $US 1,000 for violating social distancing laws. Victoria is Australia’s COVID problem child with ongoing community transmission issues, although if it were in the US the numbers would be considered a great success.

I played golf with a couple guys today who are late 30s rich guys and I was shocked, both absolutely hate Trump and specifically cited racism. I mean this was at an Ohio country club. I think there is a very real chance he gets annihilated but I’m just too beaten down to actually believe that will happen.

riverman why are you constantly hanging out with random rich white people at golf clubs?

I imagine it’s because those are the people who populate golf clubs.

Ugh. I’m just so mad watching that.

Was all the shame stuff before and after they told him to gtfo because he didn’t want the complete abolition of the police department?

“Abolish the police” is quite the political position.

I’m guessing it would poll somewhere like 10% approval nationally?

Yeahhh I dunno how I feel about that video. If you aren’t willing to negotiate from " abolish the police " you aren’t going to get anywhere.

Burning down the 3rd precinct had over 50% support. I believe abolishing the Ferguson PD did at the time as well.

Nice.

I guess I need to find new people to play with. Though the other guy we played with who I always thought was deplorable-adjacent got real quiet while I was talking with my Trumper buddy playing today and privately mentioned to me how his gf is “a hard-core liberal and what she says really makes sense sometimes”. So I think there is some hope to change people’s minds, especially with what is going on this summer and hopefully into the fall.

Dunno about that. For one, on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 the bullying was easier because it was his own party that he had to bully. The Republicans overwhelmingly voted for it. Democrats voted for it as well, but not by as big a margin. It passed like 70/30 overall, so I don’t think much bullying was required.

Democrats very heavily favored Medicare and the Republicans split on it. It also passed by a pretty huge margin overall. Dunno how much bullying that one took either.

Exactly.

Boy genius mayor didn’t offer any concessions as a starting point at all. Zero-zilch-nada. He just said “no”. He isn’t ready to negotiate yet. He needs more ‘tension’ to be applied… maybe then he’ll be ready to negotiate.

The police and their sycophants, like this boy genius mayor, need to show a willingness to negotiate in good faith first, before any negotiations can take place. The ball is in their court. They need to offer concrete real world concessions as a starting point and counter offer.

Every mayor is more scared of the power of the police department than of protestors. Until you make that change, they will not change. The NYPD doxxed De Blasio’s daughter for a reason.

I should also state very few people actually like the police. A majority (at least a few weeks ago) like the idea of the police we are fed by the media. By shows like law and order, brooklyn 99, the wire, csi and countless others.

The mayors & governors pretending that they aren’t the heads of the cops is lol-tastical. It’s like if POTUS claimed he wasn’t the head of the troops. These mayors here in this context have one job, if they can’t do that one job they need to go too. Nobody is forced to be in charge of these cops.

Waiting for Dick Wolf to come out with Law & Order: Internal Affairs.
