It’s what they used to do to basic trainees, too. Think Full Metal Jacket. I had so much trouble with this in basic…I would always bust out laughing, no matter how much they insulted me or yelled.
I don’t think they do it in standard basic training anymore, or at least not as much. Of course, you do your runs in tennis shoes and shorts now, too, when I had to do it in combat boots and BDUs /grumpyoldlady
In other news…I have a glimmering of hope that we are starting to turn the messaging around a bit. My FB groups today were full of “omg scary protester” posts, but the majority of the comments on those posts are now definitely on the protesters’ side (first amendment rah rah), and even more calling out the MAGAts for being the ones ratcheting up tension. It is definitely better than the past two days. Something that might have helped is that one dude came out last night and started tagging stuff, and the MAGAts saw the protesters banding together to drive him away and get him to stop.
I’m down here at Vegas city hall about 100 people very peaceful one guy is having a convo with the police chief and everyone is listening quietly. Might move to the strip after. This isn’t even really a protest compared to other cities.
Vegas protests have been safe compared to the other ones in the “main protesting areas”. It seems but then a cop got shot the other night and they arrested three right wing terrorists that were about to fuck shot up
It was a black woman. I think she just fell for the propaganda that all the violence is antifa. Or shes working for the other team. She was also using the police siren on the bullhorn which had a few people saying wtf don’t use that.
I saw her like 10 mins later on stream though so she obviousln’y didn’t go anywhere.
Tell her you were watching a stream and people started rioting and how terrible it was. How they were using explosive devices and chemical agents and destroying personal property, and that it was all caught on film.
When she says “See, that’s why we need the cops” you tell her it was the cops that were rioting
There’s a transcript of the 911 call that started this.
I notice that the operator asks for a description and immediately wants to know the race and the caller doesn’t answer that part, describes everything else about the guy, and only mentions that he is black when the operator asks more directly.
I guess the clerk was a 17-year-old kid. They described George Floyd as “awfully drunk” and about to drive away. Who do you call if you think a black person is about to drink and drive?
The kid has been fired. People don’t seem to blame the owner.
But in the south Minneapolis neighborhood surrounding Abumayyaleh’s store, Cup Foods, it’s hard to find anyone who will criticize him. In fact, almost everyone I spoke with in this largely black community said Abumayyaleh and his staff are known for not calling police.
I’d like to see a local resident verifying that, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this is true.
Is ANTIFA claiming they’re looting, or claiming they’re not looting? Are BLM and ANTIFA in simpatico or are there meaningful tactical differences?
I do realize they have the same general strategic goals, but it seems as if BLM leaders have been more outwardly against looting and destroying property than ANTIFA.
Kinda surprised. Watching the DC stream and its 7 minutes passed curfew and so far the airborn hasn’t done anything yet. Still just chilling there. I wonder if the military is refusing orders to be violent like the police would be?
Wanted to add the protesters in this stream have been fucking elite. Great chants, 100% peaceful. Same stream where those two black women were mindfucking the military guys.
