I’m not a lawbro but what in the hell else could you charge chauvin with?

They sure seem to be able to stack them up on people they don’t like.

Chauvin got charged with 3 counts per amended complaint.

Also, Boots is only partially right. For bullshit situations where they’re definitely offering a plea they charge you with 10 counts so you plead to 1 or 2 felonies (which might be the only legit ones you’re facing).

For murder when they’re not offering a plea it’s dumb to file a bunch of lesser counts, and give the jury an out to convict him of agg assault or some weakass lesser included neg homicide.

Ellison is 100% correct.

Looks like a huge crowd of protestors in LA on some overhead chopper cam views.

That’s one way to escape the police

His own taser?

I have a lawbro friend (criminal defense atty.) who is also a republican, though he is firmly on the side of BLM in this case. His thoughts are that there is probably more to the story of them working together, and that it needs to be thoroughly investigated. He said more charges could come from that if they find anything, and any prior poor relationship between them could be cause to actually increase it to murder 1.

Obviously the investigation is ongoing, and he said charges can be added later.

Hate to be the contrarian, but I don’t think its routine to just throw random charges at people hoping something will stick. It does happen sometimes, but it is not routine. I can’t think of anything else they could charge Chauvin with.

Another escape. The guy just runs and goes full Batman when they start shooting at him.

They usually like to stack with resisting arrest and various weapon charges which they can’t use in this case.

Even the most overworked public defender could see through absolute bullshit charges not based on facts, but criminal law does have different charges for the same basic conduct that get stacked as intimidation.

Murder, nahhhhh, nope. Any prosecutor who would try such a dumb strategy would never get promoted to homicide (excepting bum fuck counties and what not).

During the heyday of the War on Drugs, prosecutors routinely overcharged people in order to get plea deals to lesser charges (still often felonies).

Although I realize that’s not the same thing as filing multiple charges.

Who working together?

Ellison and MPD? If so, lol.

Floyd and Chauvin

Oh, yeah. Thank you for clarifying.

Apparently, Chauvin was told by his wife that she was leaving him the day before Floyd’s death, so that might be a factor as well.

My wife is black. I asked her about the BLM shirt thing. She said “I think it would be a good thing. I’ll ask my family what they think.”

Then I got a text.
Her: They said it’s fine and they’ve seen lots of people wearing t shirts with it. But no hoodies

Me: WTF? Why no hoodies?

Her: Trayvon

Me: Meh, let some white people get killed for wearing a hoodie. Gotta even up the numbers a little
