Like all issues, Biden needs a strong surrogate here. I am not sure who the best candidate would be.

I’m wondering at what point the general public is going to start tuning out generally on the protests - except in the biggest population areas - people have jobs and other worries, and most people just want this stuff to be over - in an odd way, people keeping at home with Covid has kept a lot of people focused on how fucked up the demonstrations have been and (I hope) have been appalled with Trumps response. But as a society we have the attention span of a gnat, and I wonder whether of about a week of constant CNN showing the same stuff is going to result in diminished returns. Of course, Trump is totally capable of pegging the needle to 11 any time.

I don’t know a lot about the general population’s reaction to the Kent State killings. Was it near-universal outrage? Because we know for sure that a solid 40% of Americans, probably more, will react with a “they had it coming” when peaceful protesters are shot this week. Of course, they won’t be “peaceful protesters”, they’ll be evil militant BLM antifa terrorists, so it’s all good.
I feel like news/video of civil rights and anti-war protests in the 60’s brought international attention and shame and helped turn the tide. Now, the people in charge and their sycophants are incapable of shame, and take international condemnation as an endorsement of their tactics.
So in closing my hopes are not high that the inevitable killings coming this week will pierce anything.

On the wife subject: mine has been subjected to several rants about how this violence was inevitable and we ultimately deserve it because we are not innocent. She listens respectfully and then moves to another room lol. She just wants this to all go away so she can go back to not thinking about it.

I started thinking that today. Shouldn’t Biden name his running mate ASAP? He needs an energy boost and the messaging help badly.
We’ve already had killings. The one in Louisville was a super popular guy too. And James Spurlock in NE, killed by a terrified moron.
But I guess like just the military opening fire on a crowd? That’s insane. I don’t know if the public can handle that but suspect you’re right. They’d want to do it at night.

I’m probably decent gauge for a good portion of the general public, I have strong liberal/left leanings personally, but I’m very hesitant to make much noise public ally for a variety of reasons. I’ve got a new camera lens coming this week, and I plan to attend public protests this weekend. So I imagine there are more members front he general public like me that don’t feel like they can sit by while this goes on.

I think Biden should wait until Trump can take two consecutive days without stomping on his dick (of course if he’s capable of doing it). He’s (on 538) 10.5 points ahead - a number of GOP are getting restless to the point of him telling to fuck off. He’s a liability everyone he talks - let thm. Biden should be run out as a stuffed owl a couple times a week, no more.

Biden just seems kind of helpless at the moment. I was thinking if you amplify another voice right now it might help. The void of leadership is so vast, I was just thinking maybe the spotlight can shine on somebody else for a bit.

Biden does best by letting Trump have the spotlight and making it a referendum on Trump.
A generic D beats Trump by quite a bit. That is what Biden needs to be. He loses if Trump can make him hated like Hilary was. Biden just needs to poke his head up every now and then and remind people (especially donors) that he’s alive, but no need to make big statements.
