What’s next… the rent’s due Monday. There’s a wave of strikes going on. There’s a pandemic. Capitalism has partially collapsed. I can’t even WAG what comes next… except it won’t be nothing.

Like what Chippa’s getting at is that the reporters at the local level are making very little money, they’re not part of a conspiracy, they’re young up and comers doing their best to make it. Like the woman in Louisville who got shot by pepper bullets probably makes like $30K a year.

I’d agree there are a lot of issues in the media. I’m sure as hell glad I’m out of it now. I was a tv news producer in a big market and nobody ever told me what to think or write. But that’s just my experience. I think national cable news went south when channels attempted to build audiences based on the political leanings of the viewers. But it has worked out well for them. People like a point of view with their news. If they didn’t the most popular channels would be the ones who played it right down the middle. But that’s America.

Meantime, you don’t think I write any better than the “sound guy”? For that I will feel like trash (but not the enemy of the people).

Where’s that?

Not sure how I’m supposed to feel about looters robbing small, locally owned hipster boutiques on Melrose Ave.

Lots of behavior like this from cops around the country, it’s disgusting

They tried this in DC for the 2017 inauguration protests. Some members of a group wearing masks caused damage. The police arrested them all and charged them all with felony rioting, even though they could not prove who caused the actual damage. DA leaned on them hard to take deals, but most refused. DA took some to trial but they all were found not guily, and then charges dismissed against the rest. Pretty sure plan was to take the strongest cases, and then use those convictions to get the rest to plead guilty. Police chief now claims they needed to make it easier to convict in cases like this.

edit: should point out that the DA (technically a US Attorney and not an actual DA) was a Trump appointee, so this was the perfect convergence of people that hate protesters - cops and Trump lackeys.

People may know that I worked in upper management at a large metropolitan newspaper for many years. I got to know the owner/publisher pretty well during that time. He was definitely “left wing” and the newspaper had the deserved reputation of being “liberal”. So not all MSM is owned and run by bad people.

No way of knowing. The powers-that-be might not have even decided yet. Often they’ll wait and see how many they catch first. The wild card is the pandemic, and I’d WAG that has kept mass arrests down so far.

Anywhere from catch-n-release without charges later tonight -to- be complete dicks, steal all the gear, don’t arraign anyone until Wednesday, and go for effective life sentence felony riot charges.

ETA: LA mayor now asking for the CA NG.

Holy shit.

Don’t worry CNN has spent the last 10 minutes focused in on an adidas store that was being looted.

Nothing like beating more totally innocent looking people to show you care about George Floyd. Jesus Christ.

Tons of legal fees, but hopefully the NLG or someone took care of that.
