Tonight’s started at 7:30. Tomorrow’s is at 2:30 at NE 36th and Kelley. Monday at 2:00 in Norman starting at Andrews Park in front of the police station. Saturday June 6 in Norman. Tuesday June 23 in OKC at Stiles Park. Those are the ones I know of so far. I’m watching Sky 5 chopper coverage of the OKC protest tonight while watching MSNBC on the tube.
The people who own and operate the media are trash, this post is otherwise accurate. Lots of local media are making < $30K a year working insane hours and risking life and limb the last few months covering these stories.
I have been following the events for three days now. The murder of George Floyd has obviously struck a nerve in the general public. What I am missing are calls for change from those in power. With a few exceptions (e.g. AOC) I have yet to hear any proposals what is supposed to change in the future. The protests can’t go on forever. What comes after? Nothing like after Ferguson?
Is this the one they surrounded and beat and kicked? Awful.
Never thought I’d celebrate a library burning.

Disappointingly after several hours apparently after pretty peaceful demonstrating with about 1000 demonstrators, things from what I could quickly went to the worse when the announced attending time of the demonstration was done - appears that City Hall was damaged with some fire damage, which is sad because its an neat old building. Followed by lots of tear gas and a lot of milling around. Haven’t heard about any significant injuries happily and didn’t see any anyone with obvious bleeding on people - the police seemed to be content to just continue to lob more gas and plead for dispersing. But it makes me sad.

Not a good day for the DPD. They were unnecessarily aggressive at every turn.
Correct. But the suits don’t control directly what’s being said on air. So there’s no giant conspiracy to bend people’s brains by saying violence may not be helping the cause.
.
My husband is currently in Reno, he got a local amber-type alert on his phone about curfew. I’m sad too, because what I was seeing looked peaceful.
Shamefully for us, most likely absolutely nothing even though only a few fucktards are arguing against the point of the protest.
There’s also the issue of it possibly turning around if they go on too long or appear to be more violent than the cops meanwhile there’s some that aren’t protesting–just taking the opportunity to steal as much as they can. I might be in the minority on that last point here but I’m hoping those people get charged.
No, a lot of it comes down to the reporters on the ground doing a bad job because they were taught methods that lead to establishment-friendly reporting. They grew up on the propaganda, they were taught to make more without realizing it, and now they’re making it.
Like full stop, if you’re just parroting the police department’s statements right now, if you’re not trying to actually see what’s going on and report first-hand, you’re failing.
Honestly don’t know, if you are arrested during this protests and weren’t like attacking cops, what is the charge etc? Or they just detaining folks?
Posted in wrong thread a min ago
They do.
I’m not sure. I’ve heard in the past of some left-wing protesters getting dramatically overcharged and being really fucked. Cops just say they were looting or vandalizing property, even though they weren’t the ones doing it.
A lot of times they just release you without charges or you get a ticket for disorderly conduct. They can get creative and overcharge. Basically allege the entire protest was a conspiracy and hold everyone responsible for everything.

good on this reporter for realizing that correlation is not causation
Looting at king of Prussia Mall
this is extremely dangerous to our democracy
I hear you. Obviously nobody has a problem with low level people busting their asses. Like its not the sound guys fault. Our problem lies with the producers, editors, and talking heads bring us the programming which is obviously bullshit.
When people say the media is trash we aren’t talking about the sound guy.
But something does need to be said about the messaging of the media we see. They’re doing significant harm to this country and world and carrying water for the status quo and corporations of this world.
I didn’t really think like this until I saw people on MSNBC comparing " Bernie bros " to brownshirts and all their bad faith bullshit. These people are not on our team. I’d think lots of the low level people would feel similar.
