Probably lost 1 or 2 very close friends from college tonight, we’ve clashed in the past couple weeks on COVID-19, and that sparked it. One is out to dinner tonight in Houston, the other is going out to dinner next week in Chicago. Both college (or better) educated establishment liberals. The combination of the coronavirus irresponsibility and ignoring this made me just completely snap on them.

Yeah, I am not impressed with CNNs coverage
I like people saying “small city” for a place that has 3x the population of the largest city in my state.
Philadelphia ABC news said that fire was related to the protests. The coverage has largely been pretty bad unfortunately, painting protestors as violent and distruptive.
I can’t decide if burning down a Doc Martens store is punk rock or not.

CNN does a better job with the sensationalized part, as always, not a good job telling the story. MSNBC does a better job telling the story… but ultimately CNN matters the most here. They’re considered a more reliable arbiter of facts than Fox or MSNBC by a large percentage of the country. That’s the big problem here.
Also a ton of the mainstream media are in so tight with law enforcement sources, they’re just going to take the (no pun intended) cop out and publish what they say, followed by, “police say.”

On the LA feed it looks like they have 50-75 protesters trapped between two police lines. I’m guessing at some point they move in and try to arrest them all? Edit: Looks like they are arresting people now 1 at a time and no one seems to be resisting. There were tons of looters in this spot 20 minutes ago but they all left. These poor saps going to get blamed.
Yeah its tough as hell. I posted earlier ITT about doing the same with my sister over her being deplorable on the protesters. But fuck just ignoring it and being cool with people being bad humans.

There’s a video making the rounds on Twitter that definitely seems to show looters killing a shopkeeper. Not linking it here for obvious reasons.
Yes. They’re proly waiting for buses, or just to make peeps piss themselves. They’re all going to end up in jail.
ETA: arrests at these events almost never have any connection what-so-ever to any crimes. It’s past curfew, they’re taking low hanging fruit.

The thing with CNN is they spend far more than Fox and MSNBC on news gathering, like 10x more. So they can put reporters on the scene.
The core of downtown Chicago has been cleared except for mopping up. Looting a mile north and a mile south.

Sorry, but I’m a little sensitive cause I worked in local media for 30 years. I’ll save the long lecture for another time, but I can tell you that people up and down the line who work in the media are busting their asses every day to bring people vital information about the pandemic and these demonstrations as well as everything else. A lot of them aren’t making much money doing it. They feel like they’re doing something important. Nice to know people on both sides think they should go home to their shitty apartments after another 12 hour day feeling like trash and the enemy of the people.

Yeah, I can live with it, because at the end of the day how is someone like me going to be close friends with someone who’s response to what’s going on in this country right now is… “Hmm, I should go out to dinner…”
In a pandemic, no less. I mean, we just aren’t on the same page or on the same team.

My daughter confessed she is attending the protests in Denver. She said don’t worry, things get dicey at night but she’s out of there before then. She said the biggest thing driving her there is to be united with people who feel the exact same way. This was a murder. This was wrong.
Plus she knows me and her mom are huge fuckin hippies who want her safety above all but can’t help but feel proud of her. I said be safe and let us know if you need us to bust you out of the slammer.
