The issue with the trips bet in UTH is that the payouts are very low. Taking -ev wager with higher variance isn’t necessarily a bad thing when you consider that your wagers are by defintion minus ev.
You do have to consider that you win the trips bet regardless of the outcome of the hand. So you can lose the hand but still win that bonus
How often are you losing holding trips or better though? It cant be a large percentage
