The tanking makes watching poker tough for me. I understand and appreciate taking your time to make literal million dollar decisions, but that isn’t really entertaining.
You def need a shot clock if you care about making it spicy for spectators. No judgment on whether it matters if it is great for spectators.
live feed of poker is pretty unwatchable unless you’re really into it. The edited show are, well, edited. The reason for a shot clock is for the players who are actually playing the game (and paying 100%+++ of the prizepool), not for pokergo.
Agreed he was terrible and his whole rant about tanking seemed really out of place when there wasn’t really much egregious tanking going on. He just had that rant ready cause he can’t actually talk about poker hands. Also it’s like he didn’t even consider that the audience who is paying for poker content is interested in poker. People paying for this content likely already know about the tanking issues to begin with anyways.
Then there were is dumb quizzes that has nothing to do with poker and also random side stories that again had nothing to do with poker. Sure live poker streams can be long and boring at times but people are interested in it enough to pay for it. No need to start talking about things completely unrelated to poker. Like can you imagine watching Golf and the commentator going off on a three shot tangent about Dr. Zeuss?
that’s the dream though. punting 250k for shits and giggles >>>> chopping the 1/18th equity while probably only having 20% of yourself
that being said i guess guys like Dan Smith are crypto whales too now who are just v good at poker. crypto really fucked up the distinction between pros and filthy rich degens
Imagine spending 50k on a plo tournament
Run your stack up for 2 levels
Get in preflop with good aces vs worse aces
Flop a two pair and bd straight outs
Bust to runner runner flush
And still get called “Opponent” on the pokernews update :((
When I was playing tourneys pretty regularly had this situation come up.
18 left in the opening event of Aus Mills. $1k entry 250k up top something like 1300 entries.
At break it’s only me Rupert Elder and a number at the table waiting for restart. I chat to the n00b guy and he mentions he usually plays free bar games and sub ~$10 entries so this is huge for him and he is pretty scared. Obviously I hear this and Rupert does as well (Rupert has no real idea who I am at this stage).
Sure enough I level myself myself later on into thinking Rupert is always full of shit on n00bs BB and bust on the FT in 9th rejamming K7cc in SB for too much over his MP open on n00b BB.
