Agree which is why I said he doesn’t win many of them.

so his only skill, if you can call it that, is being such an ahole that the best players in the world (in a variety of disciplines at multiple tournament series) go on monkey tilt and gift him millions in equity and real $$.

that’s something I guess

This is a dumb debate as we just don’t have real data to prove it one or the other. The only data we have is the countless and endless obvious basic technical errors we see him make every single time he plays a televised cash game.

I still say I would bet a lot of money that if he played a statistically significant number of hands in my local 2/5 game he would be a loser 4/5 times.

Good job Phil. Must be nice being the 4th standard deviation guy. Someone has to be. Glad it is you as you bring in players at least.

I mean, kinda, yeah.

If this was a forum not filled with people who understand variance and statistics I’d fall for this trap. As I know you do, nice try!

:joy:

It’s kinda funny that the more clovis hate on hellmuth the more he wins (his hu sng domination was as improbable as his bracelet).

We do get to see phil play relatively often and he makes more bad plays than anyone successful at the level he plays. It’s genuinely strange how he has pretty constant success at the wsop. Perhaps @Watevs will share his view as he must played with him quite a bit.

I don’t hate him at all. He is obviously good for poker.

I guess I do hate his table behaviour. Even if he was good at poker I’d hate that as it is simply inexcusable to be a bad person, know you are being an awful human, and continue to do it.

Here’s another statistical anomaly courtesy of Bayes - don’t you think it’s weird that the 1 person who’s run multiple standard deviations above all other poker players in the world also has a highly unique, abrasive personality that’s so distasteful to everyone including yourself?

Not really given as I said he wins because of his awful personality.

100%! was looking for anything poker skill related that clovis would give him credit for, so we’ll take it

The funniest part of this is when the two best hu players ever are chatting and then joke that Hellmuth might now be the best.

That’s the other data point we have actually. That Phil doesn’t have the respect of any other great players. They all think he is a massive fish.

Anyone know the deal with Alex Livingstone? You never hear his name outside wsop but every year he is destroying at it.

He was a good 2p2 poster

He’s the guy credited with popularizing the term “OMC”, right?

Interesting. Thought that was a Bart Hansen thing?

There are a lot of decent/good (i have no actual idea) mixed game player who you only see during the series. No one is really covering a 200-400 mixed cash table at the Aria

This is one of the classic twoplustwo posts.

I think someone can be technically unsound and still be a winning player.

If you had to guess, over the past twenty WSOPs, how many years was Hellmuth a net winner?

That bet can’t happen in live poker, so its a moot point. In the end it’s just opinions, admittedly with the most informed opinions apparently on the side of Hellmuth being somewhat fishy.
