it doesn’t have to implicate HCL as being guilty of actively cheating. it implicate HCL as having a broken product. either they go straight against garrett and saying he’s full of shit and their product is fully secured or they are done. they might be done either way.
I think they can come back from having a broken product, if he backs them. If not, he goes back to LATB or someone starts a new product at Gardens or something.
and if they admit to having a broken product you gonna get a shitload of backlash from people who played there and can now have reason to speculate they were cheated by smarter cheaters.
it’s a PR nightmare unless they can get garrett to change his tone.
Well, for example, if they say that their security wasn’t stringent enough and it’s possible a device was brought in, and now they’re going to use a metal detector, then Garrett says, “Yup this is a good fix,” then I think they’re fine.
Yeah this is a good point.
I can’t even imagine the discussions behind the scenes, and I don’t know how much they make off of the streams, but it’s probably not as much as Garrett has made playing them.
I’m obviously super late here, but that hand was exactly the kind of stuff that happened with me and potripper. That kind of hand is what led a bunch of us to comparing notes on our games against them. That took more hands than what they would be able to play live to do to say anything with any sort of certainty, and potripper went about it in such an incredibly stupid way. I would have been extremely pissed and suspicious about that, especially with issues in other streams.
I think people are putting too much stock in Robbi’s inconsistent statements about the hand. I think she’s clearly in over her head and pretending not to be.
One of the interesting developments over the last few years with training sites and training in general is that people are learning high level concepts without developing good poker fundamentals. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen some 22 year old make an obvious punt, but he/she is able to explain it away (and sometimes articulately!) with some range advantages, frequencies, blocker combos, GTO arble garble, when in reality it was just a massive massive punt. Listening to Robbi talk about the hand reminded me of some of these people.
these arguments are even better than the uncle rico pro sports arguments. because every dumbass on twitter thinks they could sit at any poker table in the world if they just had the money and would play better than her, and never be frustrated, or confused, or play poorly, or say things they weren’t sure of…
i dont have a dog in the fight because im one of the people that doesn’t really follow poker any more that got this sprayed all over their timeline, but i really want to see the epic schrodingers cheating device she must have that is so crazy smart to be willing to use it unnoticed in this televised game, but also terrible enough to have her get so blatantly “caught” by everyone on social media immediately.
I think this comes closest to my view. I’m not 100% on team no cheating, but that’s definitely where I lean. I think she was tired of being pushed around and effectively said, “I’m going to call him since I think he’s bluffing” without recognizing in the moment the important requirement that her hand had to be able to beat a bluff (or the range of likely bluffs, whatever).
I think at this point, lots of people are just looking for stuff to confirm their view (e.g. stuff like the vibration).
The new theory I’ve seen (in the latest Polk video and elsewhere) is that she has to tank to get a signal from her team. They show here tanking in the J8 missed draw hand as an example. The other theory he presents is that when she knows she’s ahead, she makes suspicious min raises with weak hands (as an example when she min raises AK on the turn vs. Eric’s A8 when neither have a pair).
The problem is that the J4 hand can only work with one of these theories, but that is ignored. She min raises Garrett’s bet pretty quick, and only tanks after his shove. So either she didn’t know she was ahead when she min raised or the tanking means nothing since she already knew she was ahead before tanking.
Obviously this doesn’t prove she wasn’t cheating, but it shows people are looking for whatever theories they can find that support their view, regardless of whether those theories all make sense together.
I’m at 60% she cheated. I don’t think anyone is going to find anything new by micro inspecting the stream though. I don’t think there is a shaking chair or whatever. The sample size of hands is also so small that unless she confesses there’s never going to be any definitive proof.
Yea, this is my view also, I think after she min raised she just said fuck it, I think this is a bluff, without really considering that a lot of bluffs have her wrecked, she just wanted to make a stand.
And I guess maybe her Jc maybe made her think it was more likely to be a lower flush draw bc she’s blocking some higher draws?!
