Trump skipped/threatened to skip at least 2 debates in 2016. The first time, he counter programmed by holding a speech at the same time and made the debate look like the JV squad. The second time, after he said he wouldn’t show, the debate was cancelled.
Now I don’t think the party will clear the field for him as much as they did in 2020 (he’s not the sitting Pres and too many legit challengers are going to want a shot), but Trump definitely knows that he has a lot of leverage to dictate the terms of the debates and probably even get the rules written in a way that makes it hard for Cheney to qualify.
Nah, this is revisionist. Skipping the one debate was a mistake, he realized it was a mistake, and it was the reason he showed up to later debates. Of course this is different. He hadn’t been president then with quite the cult-like following he has now.
I’ve said this before but I think pundits way overvalue debate performance. I’m sure Liz Cheney would “own” Trump in a debate in the same way Hillary out-debated Trump. Problem is Trump is playing by a different set of rules.
Right, I mean to say she “won” the debates in a Lisa Simpson high school debate kind of way like if they were being scored on strong arguments and being factual and all that. But afterward all anyone really cared about are the silly zingers Trump came up with and how unlikeable Hillary was.
America is so post-policy and post-fact checking that these debates are pointless. Trump/DeSantis is maybe better off holding a counter rally and trying to get free airtime.
I’ve never actually been to one and intend to keep it that way. Do they ever have booths where you can do things like learn how to properly use perspective in paintings and drawings? Or how to sculpt the human form? Do they ever cosplay the development of modern banking? Does anybody make dioramas of all the cool stuff that got built once people remembered how to make concrete?
When I was a kid, I was at a Renaissance Fair and watched a guy in a loin cloth try to do that rope ladder balancing game. He fell, of course, and he wasn’t wearing underwear, so his dick and balls flopped out for all to see.
They have exercises in translating Plato from Arabic and formal discussions about whether transubstantiation occurs in the stomach or the mouth and hygienic burial practices. Also have some cadaver dissections.
I went to a couple when I was like 11 or 12 and had fun.
I just can’t conceive how jousting became a thing. Seems like a really bad idea. Axe throwing is cool, but you better land the throw cause now you ain’t got no axe.
