…what about Earth & Fire?

Chicago is just trying to be cool like Seattle, who hosted the Blue Angels at Seafair last weekend.

Oh you think you hated this air show…

Was going to get a 7 PM Sat flight from Traverse City to Chicago to Lexington.

Air show was blamed for why Traverse City to Chicago was delayed. But that is air traffic delay. I still took the delayed trip to OHare but the late flight to Lex was no longer available. So mechanical error they can give hotel vouchers and food vouchers. Air show delay lol fuck you. We were told vouchers would be available to us in Traverse City until we got to OHare when they basically said nope lol fuck you. So I got to sleep in OHare.

Fuck AA

FWIW Delta refunded me for expenses for the Crowdstrike BS, and gave me a $300 voucher.

The way airlines handle boarding is absolutely the best example of how capitalism and economic thinking makes everything worse.

I don’t give a flying fuck how much you paid, the only way to efficiently board a plane is back to front. Bonus points if you go windows, then middle, then aisle.

Getting on in the last boarding group and someone else in that group is in row 13 is infuriating.

No wonder flights are late all the time.

Unless this old article from Vox has been debunked (it’s 10 years old) this is not true.

I read a study that I can’t find right now that the actual best way is to board windows then middles then aisles but it’s too labor intensive for the airlines or something stupid

The other problem is limited overhead bin space. People who pay more for economy plus, or frequent flyers, expect to get first dibs on that.

Thought of this seeing the Biden thread and his proposal on requiring one-click cancellation.

Was charged by Adobe some recurring annual charge. Don’t really use any Adobe product that we’d be charged for, so I look into cancelling. I see that I’ve been charged this for 3 years now. Probably only used it the one time when first signing up.

Receipt was from PayPal, so I look under the Adobe account that matches the email on the PayPal receipt. No subscription of any kind shows up. I call Adobe on Saturday, their phone system says my wait time is 1 minute. After 10 mins of holding, I realize they probably aren’t answering calls on a Saturday evening, and hang up.

I call back yesterday. Give the PayPal transaction ID, and other info. CSR comes back 5 mins later saying she found the subscription, but it’s under a different email than what’s on the receipt. Strange. Won’t tell me what email it is under, so I start guessing some emails, all of which are wrong. Ultimately, she agrees to cancel the charge going forward. Can I also get a refund? No, they can’t do that, and recommend I file a dispute with the credit card. WTF?? (I’m guessing that is because the dispute will be rejected, since ultimately it’s a “valid” charge.)

It’s probably somewhat on me for not remembering what email was used to signed up for the plan, but there’s got to be an easier way.

Yeah, this has become the obvious problem of 2024. Every flight I’ve been on this year included people that had to interupt the boarding process to check their bags when there was no more room. The incentive system is completely backward with charging people to check their bags instead of charging them for limited overhead space.

I love that just letting people choose their own seats is the fastest method. People get to adjust their strategy based on what’s really happening and they don’t have to look for the right seat.

and

Now, it’s hard to say whether the Steffen method would be feasible for real-world use; it’d require passengers to be in an absolutely precise order, and parents wouldn’t be able to board with their small children if they want to sit next to them on the flight. Still, it’s clear that this is the fastest method possible.

Yeah, I think the Steffen method would be slower in the real world. People not being in line with the people they are sitting next to would cause a lot of trouble.

Frontier and Spirit charge people for use of overhead space.

I just flew non-stop from SEA to Dulles a few hours ago, returning after a 6-day trip for baseball and poker. I took the “plebian first class” by paying an extra $80 each way to sit in my preferred economy seat, which is exit row, aisle. Since I had already planned to pay the extra $35 to check my large bag, I only boarded with a thin backpack, so it was fine to board near the end of the check-in.

Had an empty middle seat and a guy at the window who slept, so my 2-seat, hillbilly suite was pretty nice.

The best flight I ever had was once when I flew home from college. Since home was Milwaukee, I would take Midwest Express whenever possible (RIP). It was a nearly empty flight, so I had an entire row to myself and laid across all the seats. Plus, Midwest Express always gave out warm chocolate chip cookies.

My best flight was on Vanguard Airlines. The flight attendant turned out to be a girl I used to wait tables with. I had the whole back section to myself and she fed me free drinks the whole flight.

Lets face it getting on a flight would be exponentially better if airlines applied their rules and stopped c****s with oversized bags before they got on instead of letting them jam their bag in the bins for 5 minutes. Would also have the advantage of not running out of storage bin space.

eh?

This is my biggest rant with airlines. They allow you a carry on and even specifically state what size it has to be. There is nothing worse than being told I hafta check my carry on! WHY?!?! Cuz assholes in front of me didn’t follow your rules so I get punished?! FU
