When I used Waze it really enjoyed trying to make me take unprotected lefts across three lanes of rush hour traffic, but maybe it’s worth another shot.
Much more exciting right?
Seriously, I think Waze is better at updating off of user inputs. I like that it tells me where cops and crashes are, or unexpected lane closures, construction, etc. It’s literally within minutes
One thing that tilts me tbh is that I always ignore its suggestion to get off 1 exit later for where I work. But that’s just because I park in a lot that’s not the exact address (otherwise, it would be right). But you’d think that after ignoring the suggestion day after day, it would eventually learn that you know what you’re doing and correct the route
Anyway, I do like Waze much better than Google maps. Let me know how it works for you if you give it another shot
This reminds me of a hilarious anecdote.
About 6 years ago I was doing a roadtrip with my parents to New Orleans. For some reason they were still subscribed to OnStar Navigation for like $15/month (prob a holdover from when they got their SUV). So despite me telling them just to use Maps for driving directions, they insist on calling in to OnStar for driving directions to New Orleans. The OnStar customer service lady responds “and which state is that in?”
They canceled their OnStar sub upon returning from the trip.
I want a setting on navigation systems that will have it stop giving directions a couple of miles from my house, it should know I know how to get home from the freeway to my city.
This.
I don’t understand how Waze still exists. Google bought them 10 years ago. Why isn’t there an integrated Waze/Google maps superapp?
Also when I asked my phone to navigate to the airport yesterday, Google maps helpfully defaulted to LAX, which is roughly 2,000 miles away from my Columbus Ohio location. Gjge
I believe they integrate the driving data but there’s two very different experiences for customers.
So get directions to your freeway exit instead.
Oh it’s my fault the app doesn’t work right is it? Am I holding it wrong?
I don’t know if this is operator error on my part but when I’m in a rental car it’s often easiest for me to have my phone vertically oriented but upside down (so charging cord goes in on top). However, neither Apple Maps or Google Maps will turn their maps completely 180 degrees when you are holding the phone upside down. The will rotate 90 deg if you want to hold it horizontally.
Is there some setting that I can use to overcome this or do I have a case for legitimate rage here?
I feel your rage on this one. It has been a long time since I’ve done any fiddling around in Xcode but I’d assume that the degree of rotation is up to the developer. Apple may have wanted to keep the home button or camera in a certain position, but I think the developer can still override that. I know the iPad doesn’t care what orientation I have it on the apps I use on it.
Is there some magical health benefits to Cacao chips that make up for them tasting awful? I’m trying Oats Over Night and in almost every flavor they add these things that in a world free from worry would be tiny chocolate chips but in this, the worst of all timelines, just taste like dirt.
Reminds me of my mother trying to feed me carob when I was a kid. Still mad.
When I don’t need navigation anymore, I just hit the X and close the app.
I started Oats Overnight recently and love it. Have not had an issue with cacao nibs, but I also like dark chocolate and haven’t had many flavors that have them in it.
Overall, I’m happy with them, I did a variety pack and tried 'em all pretty much, except for Egg Nog, I’m not a monster. I’m not sure if I’m going to order them again though, still not 100% on board with cold oatmeal, although I’ll be moving to a place with a microwave soon and should try some there heated up.
It’s marketplace competition, Google style.
I just used Waze in a friends car to drive from Ventura to San Diego, first time I’ve ever seen it used it, and instead of driving 101-405-5 it had us drive 101-38-118-5-134-Get off the freeway and drive through Glendale-5
What the fuck? Why? How could that possibly be worth saving 10 minutes on a 3 hour drive.
Anyways during the trip I thought of a google maps/zillow app so I could see how much all those random mansions on a hill in the middle of nowhere cost. Do they already have this? Feels like it should be a thing.
Isn’t it just Zillow? Oh, you just want an overlay on the routing map that shows the value of the houses?
The Chicago Air and Water Show is this weekend.
I’m not exactly sure why we need Blue Angels flying 8 feet over the roof of my house in the third largest city in America and having 4 straight days of war zone level noise but here we are
