‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens - Gun Violence in America

I’m not saying aim for the leg. I know you are supposed to aim for the center mass.

But think about what you are saying. You shoot to kill. Why? What happens if it was a misunderstanding? Or if a person is deaf and didn’t hear you? Just an “Oopsie!” from you and you move on with your life?

You can immobilize a person and defend yourself and your family without killing someone else.

While reading these reasons, the VERY first thing that came to mind was all the people shot and killed by cops for these exact same reasons! Yet, if I ask why you aren’t calling for cops to disarm the conversation turns hostile. You tell me to fuck off for insinuating you don’t care about cops killing unarmed black people. The forum then jumps in and calls me a moron for thinking we can defend ourselves against cops. If I retort, I’m accused of being a cop killer. And around and around it goes. I’m not going through it again.

This has already been discussed ad nauseum. I firmly believe there’s a correlation between armed citizens, and why cops in good ole boy country don’t empty entire clips into the backs of unarmed white teenagers. For one thing, the police know the communities they police. It used to be that way in inner cities too. Cops walked beats and took the time to get to know people and the neighborhood they were policing. Another thing, is that rural police chiefs/sheriffs tend to be elected, not installed. Lastly, I sincerely believe that cops in small rural areas don’t unjustly shoot someone’s kid because they absolutely would fear for their lives from the ARMED townspeople

Oh you are being reasonable. I’m not telling people like you to fuck off. And yea, I don’t think cops should have guns. You should also be able to trace bullets back to the gun they were fired from.

But I think except for hunting rifles bringing down large animals, bullets should not be able to kill unless it’s something like entering the brain via eye socket or a direct hit on the heart. That’s goes for everyone, cops included.

There a lot of guns in cities. They don’t seem to be stopping the police brutality.

Also poor whites get shot a lot too. Not as much but they do.

You are right though it’s not worth going over again.

At this point I’m for getting rid of the second amendment. Rural people can keep bolt action rifles for hunting and firing ranges can keep as big of guns as they want to be shot for fun. Very much in favor of pulling every semi automatic weapon the public has.

We do a big buy back, and after that possession of a firearm without a fairly laborious licensing process for hunters is a major felony. And we absolutely take the cops guns as well. If some bad guy has a gun call the SWAT team who can be armed to the teeth.

The lethality in American life needs to be taken down several notches. This should have large positive impacts on the suicide rate as well. There are few methods of killing yourself harder to screw up than shooting yourself. I’m looking forward to people worrying about knife crime.

The US is a gun nation. It just is. The 2A is never gonna get repealed. But only licenced gun owners should be allowed to use their own gun. Take that Sandy Hook guy who killed his mother and stole her guns to kill those kids. If there was fingerprint unlocking, he never would have been able to use the guns he stole.

Eh. I don’t think it’s going to be repealed soon… but when I’m 50 the vast majority of Boomers will be dead. The kids who are currently going through active shooter drills are not pro gun in any way shape or form, and neither are most people my age who went to school in the shadow of columbine.

There are a lot of people who are just deeply in denial about the price we’re paying for those guns. It’s almost 40,000 people per year.

I hope you are right. But I think you need 2/3 of the states overturning it. I just don’t see 34-35 states doing it. Especially where hunting culture is so strong.

They have active shooter drills in Oklahoma too. There are a lot of things going on right now that are at least as segregated by age as they are by geography. The young people in red states aren’t that red. The young people everywhere have the internet.

What‘s keeping the police in countries with strong gun control laws from shooting citizens? The US is quite unique in that regard.

It’s a legit question, but I’m not going down this rabbit hole again. If you care to scroll, this has all been already discussed at length. In short, we have vastly different policing and judicial system cultures

Maybe changing those cultures is a more realistic goal than disarming the police.

I’m all for it!

Just don’t bitch about my guns while saying nothing about theirs’ or how they unjustly murder people and get away with it until those cultures do in fact change

Why would the hotel be liable here?

Someone who was willing to shoot their mom in the head 4 times would probably be equally willing to stab her and bring her finger along for a shooting.

We’re talking about a city that is notorious for keeping countless suicides out of the news. I’m guessing $800M is chump change and well worth it to get the story over with and not prolonging their name being associated with the most deadly shooting massacre in history whether they were liable or not

Makes no sense to me. This isn’t change either for a company that has been on the brink of bankruptcy for years.

Even if you repealed the Second Amendment, I think there is a reasonable argument that the Ninth Amendment covers some sort of basic right to self-defense, a principle underlying the Castle Doctrine, which does not rely on the Second Amendment. I think you can restrict gun ownership, but not completely abolish it on the grounds that people have a right to defend themselves and thus have a right to reasonable tools for self-defense.

Conservatives have been trying to regulate abortion clinics out of business. I would look for regulations that can be used to drive gun and ammunition manufacturers out of business while having some sort of pretend justification for doing something else. That won’t solve the problem of too many guns out there right now, but I think there is value in driving up the cost of arms and making them less accessible to the general public.
