‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens - Gun Violence in America

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but could be all of the major Vegas properties got together and pressured MGM into making the deal with an offer to help defray the cost of settlement. Nothing would surprise me. Vegas is a huge tourism money maker. It’s not in their interest to have litigation drag out for any length of time. The sooner it’s out of the public eye the better. They want to be known on an international level as an American city where the fun, gambling, shows, and partying never stops. Not the city that holds the record for worst mass shooting ever

Something to do with allowing a guy to bring an arsenal up to his room, uninhibited?

don’t think hotels have the right to look through your bags.

I believe that is going to be California’s tactic. Gavin Newsom has implemented a major overhaul in how ammunition can be purchased.

The manufacturer of the weapon of war isn’t liable. The dealer who sold the weapon to the nut isn’t liable. But the hotel where he happened to do his shootings from is liable because they apparently didn’t do enough to prevent the shooting.

Is there a legal expectation that hotels search guests’ bags? If the shooting had happened in a Wal-Mart or a cinema, would they be liable?

Are schools liable?

Florida man shoots and kills son-in-law trying to surprise him for his birthday. No charges. Boggles my mind that this investigation was shut down as quickly as it was.

That story makes no sense. The guy flies over from Norway, knocks on back door, goes and hides in the bushes, growls, jumps out and then gets shot? Wouldn’t just showing up and knocking on front door be enough of a surprise?

I decided to make mom breakfast for her birthday. I was in the kitchen before dawn when my stepdad showed up with his loaded gun. I probably should have told him what I was going to do.

It’s crazy what we have to go through when with gun nutters. I was at my sister’s house a couple years ago and her husband is a huge nutter. I woke up in the middle of the night and I was thirsty. I was gonna go down to the kitchen and get a drink but instead I drank water from the bathroom faucet. My brother-in-law is 100% that dude that would hear me open the fridge and get his shotgun thinking someone broke into the house.

Buddy of mine was in his house and heard bangs outside like someone was shooting a gun. Then someone was knocking on his door and turning the knob so he grabbed his gun and opened the door pointing it at what turned out to be another friend who was just messing with him with fire crackers.

Good thing is it scared my buddy so much that he almost shot his friend he gave up his gun.

I have literally never heard this kind of ending to that type of story. Refreshing.

One of my buddy’s co-worker came out of his house one morning and saw someone breaking into his car. He had a gun and yelled “Don’t make me shoot you.” Dude ran away. But he could have shot and killed him if he wanted.

I hate that Ring commercial where the guy catches some potential burglars at his front door while he’s at the gym. So he yells at them through the doorbell: “Gentlemen, I’d start running if I was you. Now!”

Yeah you really want to piss off hardened criminals who know where you live. Brilliant idea.

Not like you would be shaken and worried about your house or anything. Nope - better get back to those curls as you feel smug about your Ring purchase.

Yeah it was good on a couple levels because the person is the type who should not have had a gun in the first place.

I legit lol’d when I read this story. I don’t think it’s funny at all but I don’t know how to react to these anymore. This country is a total joke and I’m laughing at it I guess.

Didn’t he set up a whole elaborate system on the whole floor complete with cameras so he’d know if someone was coming towards his room? I’m not saying the hotel is liable, but it’s reasonable that their security should’ve caught that if they had cameras on the floors. And if he took out the cameras their security should’ve noticed that too

It’s entirely possible that hotel security messed up in some way. I don’t know enough details to know about the cameras. Either way though, I would have thought that the hotel should only be somewhat liable for the shootings if its failures could reasonably be foreseen to lead to a mass shooting (or other catastrophic event). So even if the shooter did take out the hotel’s cameras and installed his own, and the hotel had enough time to figure this out, I still don’t think it’s reasonable that they should be liable given that it couldn’t really be foreseen that the cameras being taken out might lead to a mass shooting.

It just seems that there are a lot more people / organisations that should be more liable than the hotel the shooter happened to fire from.
