Court documents describe the dispute that led to the exchange of gunfire.
Near the intersection of West Persing Road and Kessler Road, Mays entered a verbal confrontation with a group of four males, per a witness account.
The witness said the group asked Mays what he was looking at.
Surveillance video captured Mays responding by aggressively approaching the group and pointing his finger angrily before circling behind another person and pulling out a gun, per court documents.
He also said he hesitated to shoot because children were in the crowd, but he ultimately began shooting at a random member of the group because someone said, “‘I’m going to get you,’ and to him, that meant, ‘I’m going to kill you,’” per court documents.
Mays later said his actions were “stupid.”
“Just pulled a gun out and started shooting,” he said. “I shouldn’t have done that. Just being stupid.”
A blood-covered Glock 9mm handgun was recovered next to where Mays fell. It also reportedly contained six live rounds in a 15-round capacity magazine, including a live round in the chamber.
A computer check determined was stolen out of KCMO, according to the probable cause statement.
After Mays fired his weapon, Miller shot back with a Taurus G3 9mm handgun.
He said after he heard gunshots and returned fire, unsure of whether or not he struck the individual he intended to hit.
Lisa Lopez-Galvan’s autopsy and a subsequent ballistic comparison of the bullet recovered from her body determined that Miller’s weapon fired the shot that killer her
Apparently the KC Parade shooting all started over “What the fuck are you looking at?” What sounded like automatic gunfire might have been two idiots shooting pistols at each other.
As always, the only answer is more guns.
So the lady was killed by the guy who shot back? Good guy with a gun strikes again
How is the guy that fired back not protected by self defense? If Rittenhouse can just blast away, shouldn’t you be able to shoot back - even if in a crowd? Why isn’t the right hailing this guy as some hero for defending himself.
Not saying he’s a good guy, but if everyone can carry, you gotta live with the consequences.
Under what I’m sure are very pro-gun laws in Missouri, I’m not sure both can’t claim self-defense. First shooter just needs to say he saw gun and was reasonably afraid for life based on their words/actions.
You need to set aside your weak feminine feelings and use strong male conservative logic. Clearly the only thing that stops a good guy with a a gun spraying bullets into a crowd trying to shoot a bad guy with a gun is another good guy with a gun (preferably with an even larger gun that shoots more bullets faster). That’s just common sense.
I think only whities get to claim self defense.
Ooo ooo ooo!
Ive got at least 1 guess!
Not sure if serious but you cant shoot a random person by accident and claim self defense.
Isnt the idea that he was shooting at the guy who pulled the gun first and hit the innocent bystander?
Obviously he wasnt defending himself against the random person but he WAS defending himself by pulling his gun after being drawn on.
I dunno, maybe we just like… not have guns
THAT’S SOCIALISM!
I just wish they could invent a gun that shoots love.
Unless you are a cop
How about love for Freedom*?
*some exceptions apply.
It’s America - of course you can. Given we require no training to own a gun, we can’t expect people to use them responsibly in self defense. So long as you’re justified in using self defense, you’re generally not criminally liable for any injuries to innocent third parties. Often even if you were reckless in harming them. I’m sure in MO, the protections for a good guy with a gun are rock solid.
Sorry I meant lye. A gun that shoots lye. Damn autocorrect.
It’s called a penis.
What if I shoot a random guy and later it turns out he was actually going to kill me?
According to WaPo the guy who fired back wasn’t even the one being shot at. So that could kill his self-defense claim.
