In high school where I grew up (Texas), they had a home bound lunch pass you could get. My mom wouldn’t do it. That didn’t mean I didn’t do it. From sophomore year on, I went off campus for lunch every day (usually just going and grabbing something small and going home to watch Perry Mason, never seeing the outcome of a case).
Occasionally, they would station people outside the two parking lot gates after the lunches. That was the only time I skipped a class, as we just drove away.
By Senior year, everyone was allowed off campus without a pass. I still have no idea if my mom ever knew what I was doing the other two years, but if she did she didn’t say anything. I can’t imagine having to eat in the cafeteria, and am so glad that things like snack bars and coke machines still existed back then unlike now.

I haven’t really figured out how I want to start a topic on this, but I want to acknowledge that I am aware of and anticipated concerns about what I wrote. My mindset is that we are at war and there will be no unity, so we need to adopt more militant rhetoric on our side. If you don’t agree with that, then you can go vote for Joe Biden. How militant is a reasonable topic for debate.
I really couldn’t disagree enough. If anything Trump shows us that the ‘conservative’ block in this country has no ideology, and is as a result very vulnerable. Being good at talking conservative is definitely one of the big strengths in the pro column for Pete, Warren, and Yang. All are about equally as good at charming conservatives, but they are all pretty much great at it.
The least proven is Warren, but she’s running a brilliant campaign and I’ve scouted her (I’ve watched every version of her stump speech available online) and she’s VERY good at speaking conservative, which is what happens when you’re raised to be a typical white woman from Oklahoma and are a conservative for most of your life.
The GOP on the other hand we need to kill with fire. The best way to do that is to figure out how to get 80% of the vote. There is a very popular core set of leftist ideas that can allow us to completely shift the political paradigm. Nothing ever getting done is not sustainable, and it will not be sustained forever. The current political metagame ended the day after Trump got elected.
The parties can either get with what the population actually wants or they can be replaced by parties that do. The pillars of their power are at their weakest point since the Civil War. I genuinely believe that the Democrats will pick someone special. They have multiple options ffs. The strength of the rest of the field is why I’m so convinced Biden is toast. He just doesn’t deserve to be up there at his talent level in this group much less the old version of his talent level.
Have any of you read the recent piece about Warren’s teaching career? Holy shit she’s scary. I would not want to debate that woman and I would not want to run against her for absolutely anything.
The El Paso killer’s manifesto is kind of interesting in that he acknowledges 2nd generation immigrants generally want the same good jobs any American wants. So the whole talking point about immigrants not assimilating, or soaking up welfare, is out the window in that spot - and he’s just flat out admitting it’s racism.
I wonder how many other right-wingers on Chiefsplanet or well-named’s disaster forum would pretty much admit the same thing if you got a few beers in them in the right company?
Like how many are consciously aware that they’re racists vs. how many are racists but manage to not completely connect A to B to C via cognitive dissonance. It would unlock some mysteries for me to know this ratio.
